WASHINGTON, D.C -- The House of Representatives voted 209 to 214 yesterday to defeat the amendment would have put an end to the use of military funding for "sex change" surgeries. There are 24 Republicans who voted on the side of the LGBT lobby to defeat the amendment. Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler's amendment to the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act would have represented a unique opportunity, in a united Congress, to put an end to this abuse of our military and of American taxpayer dollars, by putting an end to the use of defense funding to pay for genital-mutilating "sex reassignment surgeries." The new amendment would have made it so "funds available to the Department of Defense may not be used to provide medical treatment (other than mental health treatment) related to gender transition to a person entitled to medical care."
This heinous abuse of presidential power was saved from repeal only by the efforts of 24 Republican members of congress who went against their clear duty to protect the readiness, safety and privacy of military men and women. The following is a list of the Republicans who voted against this measure:
  • Amash - Michigan 3rd District
  • Bergman - Michigan 1st District
  • Coffman - Colorado 6th District
  • Comstock - Virginia 10th District
  • Costello - Pennsylvania 6th District
  • Cook - California 8th District
  • Curbelo - Florida 26th District
  • Denham - California 10th District
  • Dent - Pennsylvania 15th District
  • Faso - New York 19th District
  • Fitzpatrick - Pennsylvania 8th District
  • Issa - California 49th District
  • Katko - New York 24th District
  • Knight - California 25th District
  • Lance - New Jersey 7th District
  • LoBiondo - New Jersey 2nd District
  • MacArthur - New Jersey 3rd District
  • Mast - Florida 18th District
  • Reed - New York 23rd District
  • Reichert - Washington 8th District
  • Ros-Lehtinen - Florida 27th District
  • Shuster - Pennsylvania 9th District
  • Stefanik - New York 21st District
  • Tenney - New York 22nd District
"This defeat of Congresswoman Hartzler's amendment to the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act is a tragedy for our country and our military, and was made possible by the 24 Republicans who betrayed the values of their constituents and their party platform," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. "It is disheartening to see the best interests of our military spurned by weak representatives who caved to political demands, denying this critical opportunity to reject the Obama administration's appalling sex-reassignment mandate. This presidential edict requires the Department of Defense to take taxpayer's money allocated to support our national defense and use it to fund surgical procedures for those suffering from gender dysphoria," said Staver.
