Horses are a subject close to the hearts of many. And so it should be of interest that the work of leading contemporary equestrian artist Kristine Nason will form part of a major exhibition of equestrian art from July 12 until August 11.
Obsidian Art Gallery in Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury, UK, is showing four paintings by the renowned artist in
The Horse in Art exhibition. It is also using one of her pictures in its publicity material for the event.
“I’m delighted that the gallery has used one of my images to promote their forthcoming exhibition The Horse in Art, which showcases work from some of the leading equestrian artists in the region,” says Kristine.
The exhibition shows the work of 40 selected British artists, featuring some of the best in equine art - paintings, sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics and glass.
Kristine inherited an artistic talent passed down through generations of her family and was initially tutored by her great-grandfather. She grew up in the English countryside surrounded by horses, and entranced by their beauty she would strive to capture that essence with pencil and paintbrush. Drawing skills and a thorough understanding of anatomy were always evident in the artworks that Kristine produced, and from the age of 14 she had a waiting list for equestrian studies, and was selling paintings through galleries. After training in graphic design Kristine worked as an art director in the advertising industry before moving to London, where she joined a fine art publishing company with a worldwide distribution network for its limited edition prints. As artist in residence, her silkscreens and lithographs gained an extensive following of loyal collectors. Kristine returned to fine art painting in the early 1990s, specialising in equestrian work and portraiture. She is a full member of both The Society of Equestrian Artists and The Society of Women Artists, and she exhibits with many other major art societies in the UK. “My current body of work includes pieces which are emotive and freely expressive, using the horse as a visual metaphor for qualities of greatness that the human heart aspires to: beauty, nobility, bravery, gentleness, power . . . artworks to delight the eye and touch the soul,” says Kristine.
