Trump wins. Again

Sorry, left: Electoral College does its job in spite of your attempts to thwart it

””
I guess no one is really that concerned about getting respect from Martin Sheen and Mike Farrell. The left's delusional best efforts notwithstanding, the Electoral College today did exactly what they're supposed to do: They honored the decisions of the voters in their respective states and elected Donald Trump and Mike Pence as our new president and vice president. The vote is ongoing as we post this, with the running tally so far at 219 for Trump and 120 for Hillary. But we're going to go ahead and call it because the only elector to go "faithless" in any state rejected Hillary for Bernie Sanders. That was in Maine. Supposedly Christopher Suprun of Texas will do the same and reject Trump, but it's clear from the trend that just about no one else will. The left's six-week campaign to persuade Republican electors not to back Trump accomplished about as much as the $100 million Hillary campaign - not a damn thing:
With more than 30 states reporting, neither Trump nor Hillary Clinton had lost a single elector. At that point, Trump had 219 votes and Clinton had 120. The Electoral College has 538 members, with the number allocated to each state based on how many representatives it has in the House plus one for each senator. The District of Columbia gets three, despite the fact that the home to Congress has no vote in Congress. Republican electors have been deluged with emails, phone calls and letters urging them not to support Trump. Many of the emails are part of coordinated campaigns. In Atlanta, Gov. Nathan Deal empathized with GOP electors. “I, too, regret that you have been the subject of harassment by those who perhaps are not as dedicated to the proposition of what this body is supposed to do as they are agitated by the fact that the people didn’t do what they wanted them to do,” Deal told the state’s 16 electors, who all voted for Trump.

So all the e-mails, letters, phone calls, threats and protests accomplished nothing whatsoever. All the arguments against Trump were already made during the general election, and the voters in 30 states decided that, whatever his faults, Trump was preferable to Hillary. The electoral college was never going to reverse that decision, and the media gave us a lot of fake news by treating this effort as if it deserved to be taken seriously. The left has one more play - well, no it doesn't in the sense that it's never had any real plays at all - but you can expect that when Congress meets on January 6 to certify the results of the election, you'll get some Democrats raising objections to the certification. The chamber in which this happens in must, by rule, "consider" the objection, which it will do by rejecting it overwhelmingly. There will be a handful of Democrat votes to uphold the objection(s) but in the end they will come to nothing. Some Democrats tried this in January 2001 when Congress met to certify George W. Bush's victory over Al Gore. They got the same result they're going to get this time. So much for accepting the results of the election, which apparently is crucial to our democracy when Democrats think they're going to win, but goes completely out the window when Democrats lose. Every conceivable objection to Donald Trump was discussed at length during the general election campaign, and the voters in 30 states decided to elect him anyway - knowing full well that whatever his faults might be, he was the only alternative to the far worse option of Hillary Clinton. And by the way, given the cabinet choices Trump has made so far, how idiotic must our #NeverTrump conservative friends feel now about their shrieking in opposition to Trump?

Probably not as idiotic as the Democrats who tried to stage a coup via the electoral college. The former was simply wrong, if spectacularly so. The latter is delusional, petulant and insufferable. And once again, humiliatingly defeated. UPDATE: Four of Washington's 12 electors went rogue and voted for candidates other than Hillary. Three voted for Colin Powell and one for Faith Spotted Eagle. So far the only faithless electors have been Democrats. UPDATE: This Wisconsin liberal is not taking it well.
