Chief Justice Roy Moore Receives 2016 Bill of Rights Award

NEW HOLLAND, PA -- Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Bill of Rights Award by the Bill of Rights Bicentennial Committee (BORBC) of Concordville, Pennsylvania. The award was announced on December 15, 2016, the 225 th anniversary of the adoption of the Bill of Rights. Chairman of the BORBC Committee, Carris Kocher said, "Judge Roy Moore's courageous standing on the Tenth Amendment is what earned him the 2016 Bill of Rights Award. This is the constitutional ground on which Judge Roy Moore has standing in his actions as the Chief Justice of Alabama. It would be well for all of us to have a look at what rights 'of the States' and what other rights 'of the people' this amendment has reference to," said Kocher.
The Tenth Amendment reads: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
"I cannot think of anyone who deserves the 2016 Bill of Rights Award more than Chief Justice Roy Moore," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. "This award is an honorable recognition of his courage to faithfully defend the constitution. Liberty Counsel stands proudly with Chief Justice Moore on the front lines of battle to uphold justice in the courts and to preserve the America our founders gave us."
Liberty Counsel recently filed a 95-page brief on behalf of Chief Justice Roy Moore with the specially selected panel of judges at the Alabama Supreme Court. The brief contains an array of legal arguments against the charges brought against him by the Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) and the ruling by the Court of the Judiciary. The JIC must now file its brief and Chief Justice Moore will then file a Reply Brief. The date for oral argument has not yet been set.
