House Stands with Israel - Rebukes UN and Obama, We must stand with this country and oppose any attempts by the United Nations to cause Israel to compromise on its development and its security
The resolution passed two days after leaders of both parties in the Senate signed onto a similar resolution, condemning the U.N. vote and warning the Obama administration not to take any further action against Israel.
Thursday's resolution:
disapproves of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 adopted on December 23, 2016;
disapproves of President Barack Obama and his administration's failure to veto this one-sided and anti-Israel resolution;
affirms the United States Government, in the future, must continue to oppose and veto United Nations Security Council resolutions that are one-sided and anti-Israel;
affirms its commitment to the State of Israel as our loyal friend and strong ally in the Middle East; and
affirms a commitment from Congress to strengthen U.S. alliance with the State of Israel.
House and Senate Republicans are also pushing to move the U.S. embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The United States and other nations have long declined to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in light of disputes about whether Palestinians should be able to place the capital of their prospective state in the eastern part of the city.
"This resolution from the House demonstrates a commitment to uphold U.S. allegiance to Israel and will hopefully motivate similar pro-Israel initiatives from Washington," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel and President of Christians in Defense of Israel. "The Obama administration has proven to be an enemy of Israel and now it is time to reverse all the damage. Israel is very important to God and has great biblical significance. We must stand with this country and oppose any attempts by the United Nations to cause Israel to compromise on its development and its security."
