Trump puts America first; Trudeau puts Canada last

The Trump presidency will cost Canadians

There is no dispute Canadian people as a whole are politically further to the left than Americans. There are of course conservatives who would not only like to see Justin Trudeau gone but replaced by a Trump-like successor. There is very little chance the latter will happen, at least in the foreseeable future. After Obama left the White House, Trudeau became one of, if not the most prominent, Western globalist. Trudeau has sent billions of dollars to foreign countries to help with their infrastructure or to help them fight “climate change.” He has also sent a lot of Canadian dollars to the UN and UN agencies. His recent “selfie tour” across Canada showed he has little interest in helping the middle class, the people he’s always talking about helping. The rest of the world’s population, especially those living in third-world countries are more important than Canadians are.

Trudeau: The Boy Blunder

During the 2015 election campaign, Trudeau and the Liberals ran on a platform of running $10 billion yearly deficits for two or three years before balancing the books by 2019-20. How that has changed. A report by the government’s own Finance Department predicts the budget will not be balanced until 2050-51. 2050-51! A baby born in Canada this year will not see a balanced budget until they are in their mid-30s. And the accumulated debt by mid-century is estimated to exceed $1.5 trillion. Congratulations, Justin! Canada has finally arrived at discussing government debt in trillions rather than billions. The whopping increase in spending and ballooning deficits that will run for another 34 years do not faze the immature prime minister. He just keeps spending and spending and spending. And Trudeau just loves the United Nations. After all the world body spends most of its time bashing Israel so what’s not to love? Since coming to office, Trudeau has had one goal in mind and no it’s not helping the middle class or other Canadians. The prime minister wants Canada to have a seat on the UN’s Security Council and is willing to pay any price to get it. And of course the price will be paid by ordinary Canadians. Last September Trudeau pledged $64.5 million to the UN to help solve the “global migrant crisis.” And in November the Boy Blunder restored funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNHRWA) in the amount of $25 million. Former PM Stephen Harper cut funding to the agency because much of the money ended up going to Hamas. Trudeau couldn’t care less about Hamas

Trudeau and his Liberal government, including MPs who should and do know better but will never challenge the Boy Blunder have no qualms about spending unlimited amounts of money. President Donald Trump on the other hand wants to reduce spending. And the president’s policies will have an impact north of the border. There is no doubt if Trump eliminates or even cuts American aid to international agencies such as the UN or NATO, Trudeau will make up the shortfall. Perhaps not all of it but he will increase the amount of money spent internationally rather than to improve the lives of ordinary Canadians. As an example, Trump signed an executive order prohibiting NGOs from sending money to developing countries to fund abortions. Now Trudeau is considering funding an international fund, led by the Netherlands, to fund women’s sexual reproductive rights, including abortion, in these countries to make up for the loss of American money. But it is not just straight payments of cash by Canada as the result of the new administration in Washington that will cost Canadians. On Friday, Trump signed an executive order banning Syrian refugees from entering the U.S. indefinitely and all other refugees for a period of 120 days. Refugees will not be admitted into the United States until they can, in Trump’s words, be “extremely vetted.”

Trudeau wasted no time in responding, tweeting the next day that Canada will take the refugees refused entry by the U.S. While the left loves to brag about how immigrants and refugees enrich the country and many of them do, the cost of resettling additional refugees will be astronomical. But in keeping with his actions, Trudeau is oblivious to the cost to Canadians of accepting the refugees who will end up in Canada after being barred from the U.S. Accepting refugees who have not been properly vetted brings security concerns. Although there was a lot of misinformation in the wake of the 9/11 attacks about the terrorists entering the United States from Canada (none of them did) it has happened. In 1999, Ahmed Ressam, an Algerian living in Montreal was caught at the border trying to enter the United States in order to blow up Los Angeles International Airport. The possibility of this happening again is very real and will result in the Trump administration making it more difficult for Canadians to cross the border. Trump may even consider building a wall on the northern border. And he will say Canada is going to pay for it. Unlike the president of Mexico, Justin will say “okay” and run off to take another selfie. And then there is Mexico. The former Conservative government imposed visa requirements on Mexican nationals because of the number of increasing bogus refugee claims. Trudeau, as expected, lifted this requirement last month. In addition to people coming to Canada from Mexico, the first high profile case of a Mexican being deported from the United States will likely result in an increase of illegal immigrants in the U.S. seeking safety in Canada from the evil Trump. This is one more example of Trudeau putting other countries’ interests ahead of Canada. All at a cost to the taxpayer. There is also NAFTA and other international agreements. Although Trump’s displeasure at NAFTA is aimed primarily at Mexico any renegotiations between countries headed by an experienced businessman and a part time drama teacher are not likely to end well for Canada. This too will cost Canadian taxpayers. Despite the admiration for President Trump by non-progressive Canadians, the next four or eight years will be costly to ordinary Canadians. And we can hardly blame Trump for doing what he thinks is best for the United States. Trump puts America first; Trudeau puts Canada last.
