Condi Rice: Trump handling North Korean situation 'as well as anybody could'

As always, the? folks over at MSNBC were, this morning, fishing for something to use against President Trump. This time, they tried to get a 'weaponizable' quote from former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice by asking her if maybe, just maybe, Trump was "leaning too hard" on the Chinese. China is, obviously, seen as a key factor in dealing with a nuclear North Korea, since it's one of the few countries on Earth that can apply any non-violent leverage to Kim Jong Un. The implication of the question is that Trump is a moron, surrounded by a cadre of idiots, who will accidentally start World War III by pushing China to the breaking point.
Rice didn't bite. In fact, she offered some measured praise for the administration.
“I think they’re doing as well as anybody could, this is just a really hard problem."
As for pushing the Chinese, Rice thinks it's the right move.
“I think they are trying to incent the Chinese to change their view of this. The Chinese have always been more concerned about the collapse of the regime than a nuclear North Korea. So, they've been unwilling to do tough things with the regime because it might collapse the regime - then you've got refugee flows and a long, unstable, border. I think what Trump administration is trying to say to the Chinese is 'OK, that's not your choice anymore.' Your choice is 'do the tough things with the North Koreans, or we will have to do something.' Because no American president is going to let a reckless, slightly unhinged, North Korean leader get a nuclear weapon capable of reaching the United States. And so, they’re trying to change the Chinese calculus. That’s really an important thing to do."

We're sure Democrats will now paint Rice as a GOP hack, even though they love to use her as an example whenever she disagrees with the current administration.
