Back when we were all watching the Joe Biden "will he, won't he" dance, I was pretty sure he would. I knew there would immense pressure - mostly from the Clinton camp - to deny him the nomination, but I genuinely thought he'd go for it. As I (incorrectly) wrote at the time, it just made sense.
"The current Dem lineup features a woman no one likes or wants to vote for, a geriatric socialist crackpot who will collapse in the general, and two or three other guys that virtually no one has ever heard of."As wrong as I was about his decision, I was absolutely correct about the fact that he would have fared better than Hillary. I'm not saying he would have won, since he still would have had to put forth and defend an agenda, but I am saying that he had a long list of positives and virtually none of the negatives which applied to Mrs. Clinton.
Speaking at the SALT hedge fund conference in Las Vegas, Biden told attendees that he believed he could have done a better job taking on President Trump on the campaign trail, CNN reported. "I never thought she was a great candidate. I thought I was a great candidate," Biden remarked.This is, without question, the gospel truth. Hillary didn't lose because of "Russian Hackers," misogyny, or "fake news." She lost because people wanted a change, and no one ever wanted her as the next President. She was foisted on her own party like a plate of day-old shrimp. Biden, pays lip-service to the flawed concept of Hillary being a good President, before rattling the 2020 sabre:
But that doesn't mean he thinks she was worse than Trump. "Hillary would have been a really good president," he added. Biden says that the gridlock in Congress and growing frustrations at Trump could force him into the arena in 2020, but he's leaving his options open. "The public is sick of it ....This fever has to break," Biden said. If things don't improve, "I may very well do it," he said.In other words, "Crazy Uncle Joe" wants to stay relevant, and Republicans would be wise to prepare for his possible return to the political stage. We have a lot of fun at Biden's expense, but conservatives who dismiss him are whistling past the graveyard. Every time I write about Biden, I'm confronted with a pile of comments that amount to "who cares, he's nuts." Nuts or not, allow me to warn you: he's not someone to be underestimated.
