Right.

So liberals humiliated by Comey's testimony will stop this nonsense now, right?

These are challenging times for liberals. They had such high hopes for the Comey hearings. Some Democrats in the House of Representatives were so excited that they were even drafting articles of impeachment against President Trump for obstruction of justice. All they had to do was wait for the bombshells that James Comey would surely deliver, and it would be just a matter of time before the president would be removed from office and maybe even sent to prison. Then came Thursday. What a heartbreaking day.
First of all, Comey himself made no assertion that the president had engaged in obstruction of justice, and even admitted that he’d encouraged the pursuit of the truth in the broad Russia investigation. Second, Comey admitted that the president was not under investigation, which explains why the president wanted that put on the record publicly. Third, we got a hint as to why Comey was not too enthusiastic about investigating leakers in the federal government. He was one of them. He leaked his own memo to the media through a third party rather than share his supposed concerns with the Justice Department or Congress. But the cruelest cut of all was Comey’s undermining of the whole “collusion with Russia” nonsense. So much of this was based on an anonymously sourced New York Times story, which even Comey said under oath yesterday was almost 100 percent wrong. If there was no collusion with Russia, then what have we been talking about for these many months? Nothing. We’ve been wasting our time over nothing. Who’s up for more of that? The partisan Trump-haters will try to keep it alive, of course, but you can only do that for so long when it’s on the record that the whole thing is nonsense.

All the liberal media got out of this was Comey’s insistence that Trump lied about the state of the FBI under Comey’s leadership. I’m sure Comey is not the first guy who said that about his boss after getting fired, but at any rate what he’s talking about is a matter of opinion, not fact. Comey might be of the opinion that the goings-on at the FBI were buttoned down and running like a finely oiled machine. If Trump didn’t think so, Trump is the boss. It’s his call. This is all tough news for the left, which had been hoping against all hope to be talking about impeachment come Friday morning. That’s clearly not going to happen, and you can only sustain a news story so long about the disenchantment of a recently fired employee. Don’t think for a minute, though, that the liberal media will stop chasing these rabbits. This one is now showing itself to be a whole lot of nothing (as some of us have been saying all along), but they’ll find something else. They always do. You’ll hear whispers of palace intrigue from supposed insiders too cowardly to give their names. You’ll hear allegations about past business practices or financial matters or personal indiscretions. Or something. The liberal media will look for anything it can find to avoid talking about the fact that we’re $20 trillion in debt, and that the health care finance system is collapsing, and that we haven’t had 3.0 percent GDP growth in a year since George W. Bush was president. This time they get humiliated. They very well might in the future too. But they’ll never stop. President Trump and his team had better have a plan for that, and conservatives had better be ready to step up our game. Because the Beltway crowd and the liberal media won’t stop trying to destroy President Trump, ever, no matter what.
