What could his motive have been? Gosh, it's so hard to tell

You'll love some of the Facebook groups James Hodgkinson belonged to

Let's see, the guy went to the trouble to ask whether those were Republicans or Democrats practicing out on that ballfield this morning. Probably because he was just curious, right? Not because he hated Republicans and decided he wanted to kill as many of them as possible, right? Wrong:
Two days ago, the 66-year-old Hodgkinson posted an angry message about President Donald Trump on Facebook. “I Want to Say Mr. President, for being an # hole you are Truly the Biggest # Hole We Have Ever Had in the Oval Office,” he wrote on Facebook.
Hodgkinson belonged to multiple anti-GOP groups on Facebook, including: • “The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans” • “Donald Trump is not my President” • “President Bernie Sanders” • “Illinois Berners United to Resist Trump” • “Boycott the Republican Party” • “Expose Republican Fraud” • “Terminate the Republican Party”

So in other words, he was just like that one liberal Facebook friend of yours who's angry all the time and never stops spouting his political rage in the strongest conceivable language. We all know people like that, and to some degree social media has allowed us to see a side of them we might not have seen if we only knew them in "real life." My wife has pretty much stopped going on social media altogether because she's happier not seeing this side of a lot of people she knows. I don't want criminalize people's thoughts or their expressions of those thoughts. And there are thousands of angry Facebookers who won't ever hurt a soul for every one who will. But I would also say this: If your whole identity is this tied up in who or what you're angry about, or who you hate, or who you blame for everything you're unhappy about, dude, you need to get some help. And if you regularly encounter people like this, but you're sure they're all talk and would never actually do anything drastic . . . I'd hedge that bet if I were you.
