Yesterday, President Trump gave Congress a list of immigration demands that he says must be met before any sort of DACA deal can proceed
Among his requirements are:
Left-wing heads exploding
Construction of the border wall
Funding for, and hiring of, thousands of new ICE officers and prosecutors
A mandatory E-Verify system
A point-based system for green card applicants
New limits on 'chain' immigration and unaccompanied minors
This, of course, has left-wing heads exploding and has already been rejected out of hand by folks like Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. They say it doesn't represent a "compromise" and they'll work to obstruct all of this. As usual, for Schumer and Pelosi, "compromise" means "give us everything we want and shut up."

The White House on Sunday said it would seek more funds from Congress to finance building a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, as well as the resources to hire thousands more immigration officers.
The Trump administration's new "immigration principles and policies" call for a crackdown on border security, more resources to catch individuals residing in the country illegally and a merit-based system that limits chain migration to spouses and children.
The new demands would have to be met for President Trump to agree to legislation that would protect from deportation young immigrants who entered the country illegally as children. These recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, often called "Dreamers," have been the focal point of recent talks between Trump and Democratic leaders of Congress.
"These findings outline reforms that must be included as part of any legislation addressing the status of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients," Trump said in a statement following the announcement of the proposal on Sunday. "Without these reforms, illegal immigration and chain migration, which severely and unfairly burden American workers and taxpayers, will continue without end."

If we were living in a serious country that was more interested in enforcing its borders than pandering to potential voter blocs the Trump administration would get everything it's asking for. Unfortunately, we're not. So, some of this will most likely fall by the wayside. I suspect the President knows this, and has offered a list of demands that is straight out of the Art of the Deal.
He's "asking big," so he can eventually scale back and compromise for something less. The real question is "how much less?" President Trump's political success is largely predicated on a very specific set of immigration promises made during the campaign. There are a few things here - namely the wall - that have been part of his pitch since day one.
