Boy Scouts announce they will admit girls 'into every level of the organization'

A short time ago, the Boy Scouts of America announced that they will begin admitting girls 'at every level of the organization.'
According to the announcement, girls will be admitted to Cub Scout dens beginning next year. The dens will be separate from the boys, meaning not co-ed, and they won't be mandatory - meaning that local scouting groups can choose whether to have dens for boys, girls, or both. A short time later, in 2019, another program will launch allowing girls to move up through the scouting ranks all the way up to Eagle Scout. Here's the lowdown, from NBC News:
The Boy Scouts of America announced Wednesday that girls will soon be allowed to become Cub Scouts and to earn the coveted rank of Eagle Scout, the organization’s highest honor. "We believe it is critical to evolve how our programs meet the needs of families interested in positive and lifelong experiences for their children," said Michael Surbaugh, chief executive of the Boy Scouts.

The scouting board of directors voted unanimously to make the historic change in an organization that has been primarily for boys since its founding more than 100 years ago. Starting next year, young girls can join Cub Scout units, known as dens. Local scouting organizations can choose to have dens for girls and dens for boys. "Cub Scout dens will be single-gender — all boys or all girls," the organization said in a statement. A separate program for older girls will be available in 2019, BSA said, enabling them to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. The Boy Scouts said the moves reflect the changing nature of American life, adding to the appeal of a scouting program that can serve the entire family.

From messages I've been receiving, I gather I'm supposed to be outraged by this. I'm supposed be screaming about how men are being marginalized, or how our traditions are being destroyed, or how liberals are ruining everything. Guess what? I don't really think it's that big of a deal. Boy Scouts of America is a private organization and, if they think this is the best way forward, they have every right to do this. You can choose whether it's right for your kids, and act accordingly. Things change. The world changes. The knee-jerk reaction to be outraged every time something "isn't the way it used to be" is really getting tiresome. I'm honestly more interested in how this will impact the Girl Scouts.
