Second Senate seppuku in a fortnight

Open borders fanatic Jeff Flake not seeking reelection!

Open borders fanatic Jeff Flake not seeking reelection! NeverTrumper Jeff Flake of Arizona (R), who is not much of a conservative, just announced on the floor of the U.S. Senate that he will not be seeking reelection in 2018. So that’s two Trump haters in the Senate to take a dirt nap in two weeks.
Flake’s decision comes just a few days after mullah-loving RINO Bob Corker of Tennessee (R) also announced he won’t seek election. Corker engineered the ridiculous, unenforceable nuclear nonproliferation pact with the Islamic Republic of Iran that makes it easier for that country to acquire the weapons it wants to use against the United States and Israel. Flake’s book, Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle, was published in August. The fact that the book, which tells conservatives how stupid they are to have supported President Trump, has been praised by David Brooks of the New York Times and the truly awful pseudo-conservative indignation machine Michael Gerson of the Washington Post, says a lot. Flake is pulling out because he knows he can’t win his own primary in Arizona. His poll numbers suck. It’s that simple. But he’s claiming to be acting out of principle. Flake told the Arizona Republic before his Senate seppuku that “there may not be a place for a Republican like me in the current Republican climate or the current Republican Party.” “Here’s the bottom line: The path that I would have to travel to get the Republican nomination is a path I’m not willing to take, and that I can’t in good conscience take,” Flake said. “It would require me to believe in positions I don’t hold on such issues as trade and immigration and it would require me to condone behavior that I cannot condone.”
