Watch Ted Cruz utterly decimate Bernie Sanders - and Democrat tax policy - in last night's debate You might recall that, back in October, I wrote about how Ted Cruz debated Bernie Sanders, and got him to admit he couldn't explain the difference between a Democrat and a socialist. Perhaps because it can't accept the results of the 2016 election, CNN has decided to continue these debates - extending the 2015 primary season ...Forever. To that end, Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz have been battling over a range of issues in a series of showdowns that allow Wolf Blitzer to pretend Trump isn't President yet. I don't know what kind of ratings they're getting (I can't imagine they're reeling in the viewers) but I will say this: They're occasionally pretty entertaining.
That's because Ted Cruz genuinely seems to love stomping all over Bernie's incomprehensible, unworkable, and poorly thought out plans to give everyone everything "for free." In last night's matchup, Cruz dropped the hammer on the Democrat's single-payer dream.
"Democrats have one talking point on taxes: 'It's a tax cut for the rich.' And they say it over and over and over and over again in response to everything. The most important thing for you to know when you're at home is, when they say rich, they mean taxpayer. Every time they say 'rich' they mean 'taxpayer.' Why is it? Because the 'very rich' - there aren't enough of them, When Bernie ran for president, he rolled out a tax plan. His tax plan was a massive tax increase. If you took every single person in America making over a million dollars, and you taxed them 100% of their income - you took every penny they earned. you came in in jackboots and confiscated it - it would pay 8% of the cost of Bernie's tax plan. You know where they get their money? They get it from you. They get it from the middle class."

Boom. Cruz went on to explain that EVERYONE will pay more under Bernie's "freemium" scheme because there are simply "aren't enough millionaires and billionaires to pay for all the socialism that Bernie and the Democrats want to give away." As you can see in that clip, Cruz managed to get under Bernie's skin a bit. Sanders tries to argue that you'd be better off under his plan, since you won't be paying ridiculously high ObamaCare premiums and deductibles, but he has no way to argue that his idea is affordable. He says absolutely nothing to negate Cruz's "not enough millionaires" point since, even with everyone paying more, it still doesn't make fiscal sense. Deep blue states - states that actually want to implement single-payer plans - have already gone down this rabbit hole. They've abandoned the concept after coming to the conclusion that it's simply not feasible. The California state senate did a study which found single-payer would cost $400 Billion - more than double the state's entire $179 Billion budget. In other words; Ted's right - and Bernie should pack it up, head back to his Vermont beach house, and stop embarrassing himself.
