Politicians feel they deserve to be treated with deference in all matters. They want it, crave it and sincerely believe they’re entitled to it.
People in the business of public service should be treated with a “courteous expression of esteem or regard”. We all deserve such treatment. It’s rude to not show a “courteous regard for people’s feelings”.
There’s a difference of opinion when it comes to understanding the last two definitions. Here we part company on accepting people’s roles in society.
Politicians carry the same DNA construct as the rest of the world. The difference between the average citizen and the politico is people going into public service of this sort seem to have and attract money others have trouble finding. The more they have, the more they can get. That applies to money, public attention, possibly fame and success.
Their egos let them think greater deference should be paid them. Most people don’t deserve any because they
demand rather than
command deference. You can work for it. You can develop it based on the positive experiences you develop as a personal history. But, to expect it solely because you’re elected to a position in government is stupid.
I use the word stupid with intent. We have so many folks walking around governmental halls, throwing out their chests, posturing like fat pigeons and bellowing like elk looking for a cheap thrill in autumn. Fail to bow and lower your gaze and they get all huffy and upset. How dare we fail to recognize their majesty?
This attitude is pervasive in politics. From the Presidency to the lowest small town official elected, so many think because they have the reins of government in their hands, they alone KNOW what’s best. And, once they take it into their minds they have a platform to speak from they can shut down anybody not seeing it their way. They expect the third definition:
a disposition or tendency to yield to the will of others.
I’d ask the questions:
who do you think you are to demand I yield to you? What makes you think I should be so disposed to automatically accept whatever hair-brained legislation or policy stand you think is acceptable? Are you out of your flapping mind?
The President, prior to his ascension, had no other experience than being a school teacher and a propagandist for Marxist/Socialist government. He never controlled a company. He never met a payroll deadline. He never worked outside of academia. He was an undistinguished junior Senator. What qualifies him for the “deference” he demands as President? He has NO positive performance track record on which we can rest our faith in his judgment. He’s a zero, as are many like him.
The mayor of the capitol city of my home state took the authority to control Homeland Security grants and disburse the money from
his administration. This is in controversy to the written rules and regulations. Now, the Feds are saying the capitol is on-hold for any future consideration for grants. The mayor’s already spent the money.
Nice job, Mr. Mayor. I’m sure you expected everybody to recognize definition #4. Everybody should show:
a yielding of judgment or preference from respect to the wishes or opinion of another and submit in opinion; regard; respect; complaisance.
We have a newly recognized form of government; and it’s nothing to be proud of.
Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy) -
a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers (Thanks to Mike Rhoades and his dad for this Facebook entry)
The lack of deference shown now is understandable.
