imagePETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) may have got former Vice President Al Gore in the doghouse with his main Global Warming sidekick Maurice Strong by pointing out his “addiction” to red meat. While “PETA appreciates the work that Al Gore has done to raise awareness about the problem of global warming (emphasis PETA’s, they think he’s “Too chicken to go vegetarian”. Gore may be finicky when it comes to Mr. Edison’s incandescent light bulb, but according to PETA his love for steak and sausage is creating greenhouse gas emissions.

A gorging Gore, complete with potbelly and chicken drumstick is the latest PETA PR stint. The take-no-prisoners animal rights organization has launched a campaign called www.offsetalgore.com. “Since Gore’s addiction to meat is apparently stronger than his desire to secure a better future for our planet, we’re asking those who recognize that actions speak louder than words to help offset Gore’s greenhouse-gas emissions by pledging to go vegetarian for 30 days,” PETA says on its offsetalgore.com campaign. Just in time for Earth Day, Gore will see himself plastered on posters across the Internet, an embarrassing fate for a guy who claims to be saving the world from Global Warming/Climate Change. But then again it was Gore who allowed the official handbook of the Live Earth concerts he helped organize acknowledging that not eating meat is “the single most effective thing” you can do to reduce your climate change impact (emphasis in original)” (PETA Take Action: Offset Al Gore-s Eco-Unfriendly Diet”, April 21, 2008). And just to think that Gore walked away with the Noble Peace prize for saying it was C02. Meat eaters are a no-no to Gore’s number one Global Warming sidekick, New Ager and Kyoto Protocol booster Maurice Strong. In a UN Conference on Environment and Development report of August, 1991 Strong wrote, “It is clear that current lifestyles and consumption of large amounts of frozen and convenience foods, use of fossil foods, appliances, home and work place air conditioning, suburban housing are not sustainable…A shift is necessary toward lifestyles less geared to environmental damaging consumption patterns.” Does that mean that during all those meetings where Gore and Strong worked out the details for their carbon-credit business, Gore nibbled on quiche and romaine lettuce? Is Chairman Mo a secret meat eater too? If Gore were unaware about how Maurice Strong feels about people eating meat and using air conditioners, he would have to be the only one on Mother Earth. Gore bases much of his Global Warming lectures on information gleaned from the United Nations. This is how the UN feels about meat eaters: Raising animals for food generates about 40 percent more greenhouse gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, ships and planes in the world combined. “Livestock are one of the most significant contributors to today’s most serious environmental problems,” says Henning Steinfeld, Chief of the Food and Cultural Organization’s Livestock and Information Policy branch and senior author of the report “Urgent Action is Required to remedy the situation.” Meanwhile, Gore is at least gorging on steak and sausage on his own. PETA may want to have a look at Ted Turner for next year’s Earth Day centre shot. The founding father of CNN is an environmentalist who makes a fortune selling buffalo meat.
