Hillary: Investigating me would be a symptom of a 'dictatorship, like some authoritarian regime'

Hillary: Investigating me would be a symptom of a 'dictatorship, like some authoritarian regime' If there's one thing the Clintons have always been able to count on, it's that they're above the law. The rules that apply to the little people Hillary so despises have never been applied to her own family. Time will tell if that's really going to change but, now that their political power is on the wane, it at least appears as if their ability to dodge the consequences of their actions has diminished. The other day, Dan wrote about the New York Times's previously unimaginable decision to call out Bill's history of sexual predation. That alone may not seem like much but, since the Times was once a reliable mouthpiece for the Clintons, it says volumes about their current lack of influence.

Uranium One scandal

Then there's that pesky Uranium One scandal. Despite media efforts to portray the whole thing as conspiracy theory, there are still plenty of questions regarding the Russian money that flowed to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary was Secretary of State. In fact, there are enough questions that rumors of a special council persist - this despite Trey Gowdy's comments yesterday. So, the fine, upstanding, leftists over at Mother Jones decided to ask Mrs. Clinton about the possibility that she might finally face a thorough investigation. Her answer, as you'd expect, is 100% wrong. From Mother Jones:
Hillary Clinton responded on Wednesday to news that the Trump administration is considering appointing a special counsel to investigate her alleged ties to the Uranium One deal, calling the move “a disastrous step into politicizing the Justice Department” and “such an abuse of power.” In an exclusive interview with Mother Jones, Clinton said such an investigation would have devastating consequences for the justice system in America. “If they send a signal that we’re going to be like some dictatorship, like some authoritarian regime, where political opponents are going to be unfairly, fraudulently investigated, that rips at the fabric of the contract we have, that we can trust our justice system,” Clinton said. “It will be incredibly demoralizing to people who have served at the Justice Department, under both Republicans and Democrats, because they know better. But it will also send a terrible signal to our country and the world that somehow we are giving up on the kind of values that we used to live by and we used to promote worldwide.”

First, the "Justice System in America" is built on the notion that no one - not even the saintly Clinton family - is above its reach. If there's reason to investigate Hillary, and God knows there are probably at least half a dozen, then so be it. The idea that, somehow, applying the law to Mrs. Clinton's actions would damage the justice system is ludicrous. Letting people dodge culpability and enjoy the fruits of their transgressions simply because they have the right last name? Now that damages our faith in the justice system - and Hillary & Co. have been doing it for decades. Second, James Comey's decision not to prosecute Mrs. Clinton - after laying out a detailed list of prosecutable offenses - damaged American faith in the justice system far more that any special counsel ever could. Finally, if Hillary really wants to examine who's been using the DOJ as a weapon, she should look no further than the Obama administration in which she served. From Fast & Furious, to a refusal to enforce laws it didn't like, to "slush funds," to the mysterious Loretta Lynch tarmac meeting, the Obama-era DOJ was an eight-year morass of dubious decisions and political maneuvering. Holder even ended up being held in contempt of Congress - while being simultaneously praised by his President. In short, it was about as shady as it could get, and deserves to be the target of a few investigations of its own. Hillary's game has always been to portray herself as the target of wild-eyed right-wing conspiracies. She's been doing it since the early nineties. If there was any actual Justice left in this government, her victim card would be revoked, and she'd find herself at the center of multiple investigations. So please, Mrs. Clinton, knock it off. America is sick of your whining.
