Nancy Pelosi The only one whose knickers are bound to be in a twist over the grandiose gesture of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "praying" for U.S. President George W. Bush, is opponent Cindy Sheehan. Pelosi rang George W. to tell him she is praying for him and praying that he would change his mind and sign a children's health insurance bill, which expands a federal insurance program by $35 billion over five years--far in excess of Bush's own proposal. Catholics are taught that they should never pray for money, but as far as most politicians go, money from the public purse is only taxpayers' money anyway.

Nancy's prayers for Bush came fresh on the heels of her lecture that the sadomasochistic Last supper Ad promoting the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco doesn't "harm" Christianity. The holier-than-thou House Speaker is saying no Hail Marys over the Fair being held in her district on Sunday. The Fair, which sets annual records for depravity and indecency, is partly funded by San Francisco's Grants for the Arts program, in turn funded by the city's hotel tax. The Ad sparked outrage from Christian groups because it copycats Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting of "The Last Supper" but replaces Jesus and his apostles with scantily leather-clad men and women sitting at a table adorned with sex toys.
