U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw from the Paris climate accord, Axios news outlet reported on Wednesday, citing two unidentified sources with direct knowledge of the decision.
Trump, who has previously called global warming a hoax, refused to endorse the landmark climate change accord at a summit of the G7 group of wealthy nations on Saturday, saying he needed more time to decide. He then tweeted that he would make an announcement this week. Fox News also cited an unidentified source confirming the pullout.Over at Axios, they're reporting that the decision being made isn't whether to pull out, it's how. President Trump has made his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the decision. Details on how the withdrawal will be executed are being worked out by a small team including EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt. They're deciding on whether to initiate a full, formal withdrawal — which could take 3 years — or exit the underlying United Nations climate change treaty, which would be faster but more extreme. Trump himself has tweeted the following:
I will be announcing my decision on the Paris Accord over the next few days. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

...this agreement’s effects on the U.S. economy and American quality of life would be staggering. It would result in increased U.S. electricity expenditures of 15-20 percent over the next decade, 400,000 fewer American jobs, a total income loss of over $30,000 for an American family of four, and a loss of over $2.5 trillion in U.S. gross domestic product. And all this would generate essentially zero environmental benefits. If there was an environmental treaty that could be ratified legally, applied evenly across the globe, was enforceable, and would accomplish its goals, I'd be all for it. The Paris agreement isn't that treaty. It's an absolute mess, and President Trump is right to kill it.
