A summary of articles on Same Sex marriage in Canada

Paul Martin's hypocrisy on same sex marriage
By Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
Thursday, December 22, 2005

The Liberal Party is nothing if not hypocritical. This stems from the fact that unlike the NDP and the non-Liberal lite faction of the Conservative Party, they have no core beliefs. That’s not entirely true; they have two religious beliefs. One, they believe in God and two, they believe that God’s a Liberal who has ordained them as they only party that is ever fit to govern Canada.

Will Ontario's New School Textbooks Teach Our Children Same-Sex Marriage
by Dr. Charles McVety
Saturday, September 10, 2005

Premier Dalton McGuinty recently pledged $61 Million for new textbooks for elementary and high schools across the province. Mr. McGuinty's Liberals already banned the terms "Man and Woman", "Wife", "Husband", "Widow", "Widower" from all government programs, and services when referring to spouses. His government funded the new grade two level reader, entitled "Mom and Mum are Getting Married!". Undoubtedly his new textbooks will inundate the children of Ontario with anti-marriage propaganda.

Government to churches: no right to speak out against same sex marriage
by Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
February 1, 2005

At a meeting of the Liberal caucus last week in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew was asked what he thought about the plans of some Quebec churches to speak out against the government’s same sex marriage legislation. Pettigrew indicated that he didn’t think that the government and the churches should get involved in each other’s affairs.

In Grits We Distrust
by Paul Albers
February 9, 2005

How can anyone believe Justice Minister Irwin Cotler when he claims the government's same-sex legislation will not affect religious freedoms? Over and over again the Liberals have proven that they either don't understand what freedom of religion is, or they don't really care about protecting it. I would rather trust Don Cherry to run a charm school than trust the Liberals to protect the free exercise of religion.

The Rights of Marriage
by Paul Albers
January 19, 2005

What part of ‘no answer’ is it that the Liberals don’t understand? The Supreme Court’s ruling on the proposed same-sex marriage legislation was supposed to be their magic bullet against opponents of the bill but the Justices surprised everyone and declined to pull the trigger.

Consumer Report: Allstate Insurance Openly Anti-Family
Martin's twisted notion of Human Rights
by Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
January 27, 2005

Paul Martin is not the only Western leader to promote trade with China while ignoring that country’s terrible human rights record. There may be something to the argument that as China progresses economically, the human rights abuses will lessen.

Polycultural multigamy- the quest for votes
by Klaus Rohrich
January 27, 2005

I’m finding it tough to follow the current firestorm about the legalization of same-sex marriage opening the door to the slippery slope of polygamy and other unorthodox marital arrangements. Many of the more rational pundits that I have read of late, both left and right, seem to agree in well-reasoned prose that re-defining marriage as a union of one person with one other person rather than a union of one man and one woman, will not necessarily lead to the general redefinition of marriage. Thus, they reason, since the new legislation still defines marriage as a union between two individuals, we need not worry about seeing legalized polygamy any time soon. Yes, and tomorrow the temperature is going to climb to 30 degrees Celsius.

Belinda Bedazzled, Love bug misses "plant" in Conservative Party
by Judi McLeod,
January 29, 2005

Ga-ga over blonde‘ Conservative’ MP Belinda Stronach from the get go, the Canadian media were long on Belinda’s looks and short on her substance when she ran unsuccessfully for leadership of the Canadian Conservative Party.

31 Reasons to Vote "No" to Changing the Definition of Marriage
by Dr. Charles McVety, President, Canada Christian College and Canada Family Action Coalition
February 4, 2005
  • The government has no authority to change the definition of a religious term such as marriage. They have no right to change the definition of "baptism", "communion", "bar mitzvah", "marriage" or any other religious term.
  • Paul Martin feigns concern for Christians
    By Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
    Tuesday, November 22, 2005

When it comes to sheer hypocrisy, nothing can come close to the Liberal Party of Canada. Paul Martin came into office almost two years ago promising to slay the democratic deficit and do other wondrous things to change the way Ottawa had been running under the 10-year reign of Jean Chrétien. Martin, of course, didn’t change the way the government runs one iota, although he did manage to slow it down quite a bit.

    Justice: Paul Martin style
    By Arthur Weinreb, Associate Editor,
    Monday, November 28, 2005

On July 13, 2001, Jean Pelletier, Jean Chrétien’s former chief of staff, was given a five-year appointment as the chair of Via Rail. For reasons that have never been clear, Olympic athlete Myriam Bédard ended up working at the crown corporation. Bédard left her employment on January 18, 2002, claiming that she was forced to resign her position due to the atmosphere that surrounded her and that was contributed to by Pelletier. An arbitrator subsequently found that she had quit her job voluntarily.
