"Canadians sent us a message"...

by Sean Beesley, Spin Killer

July 8, 2004

Since the morning of June 29th two significant things have happened for the Liberals. First, the torrent of sweat running off Martin's face has subsided, which is too bad really, it was a constant source of entertainment. Second, the creation and barrage of the Liberals newest patronizing catch phase, "Canadians sent us a message" or "Canadians have sent us two messages". Funny, with the loss of 33 seats including six ministers I think we sent more messages than that, but hey, who's counting? I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed this for the patronizing comment that it is. Let us translate shall we.

Whew, that was a close one. We can't survive with all these "Canadians" paying attention. We've got to put them back to sleep! You know make them feel like they gave us a good strapping in front of the class and let them get back to ignoring us. We've got to be quick, before you know it these people will realize things... like a two billion dollar gun registry that doesn't prevent gun crime, might not be money well spent. That the Canadian Military is becoming an oxymoron in NaTO circles. What if they find out that the whole paranoia we fed to them about the impending armageddon that would come with the implementation of some private healthcare services was a lie, (we started some private services...let's not mention that). What if they realize that without some serious reforms the burden on the healthcare system will cause it to implode, maybe even increasing the accidental deaths to more than the present 35,000 a year. What if they realize we Liberals have plenty of social conservatives in our ranks as well. But, even more frightening is "Canadians" may start to demand that law be made in Parliament and not through the Supreme Court back door. Even worse, Canadians may demand their MP's represent them in Parliament and not their Party to them. What a nightmare all those silly citizens having a voice. The capper is how do we keep them from wanting our heads when the investigation concludes and they find out how many of us were involved with adscam. That would severely limit our reward system to our Party "friends".

Wait... I've got it... we'll let them know... WE GOT THEIR MESSaGE!

I'm over the top you say. Maybe, I did try decaf today. However, it's not that far off the mark. Today's Ottawa Citizen is reporting on the final Liberal Cabinet meeting, where Liberals gathered to "to bemoan campaign mistakes and the loss of its majority". The fact is that Liberals are angry when they should be grateful. Yet, their arrogance seeps through. In fact for all their talk about taking responsibility and being held accountable, they are whining about campaign errors and they still do not claim responsibility for their own corruption and scandals. Yes, blaming the campaign and not themselves for their fall from their god given seat at the power table. They are where they are because Canadians don't like being stolen from and lied to, at least not for long periods of time. In fact, they would be far worse off if more Canadians had the brass to give them the boot. It would appear that the Liberals have NOT gotten the message. Sure there is lots of talk about the Liberals being humbled or acting humbly. I think the key is the word "act", the Liberals are not humbled, they are "acting" humbled until Canadians don't have the time or interest to bother holding them accountable. Canadians sent us a message... give it some time and we will get a response... RETURN TO SENDER!
