a bubblegum pink Christmas

December 2, 2004

While Bing Crosby dreams of a white Christmas and Elvis Presley sings of a lonely blue Christmas, Planned Parenthood is wishing the world a bubblegum pink one.

There’ll be no peace on earth as far as the same group that offers teenaged girls easy access to birth control "without the consent or knowledge of your parents" is concerned.

The greeting on the official 2004 Planned Parenthood Christmas Card is one wishing recipients "Choice on Earth".

There are no nativity scenes depicted or angels flying anywhere on the Planned Parenthood Christmas card. On the card’s outside, directly above its Yuletide pro-abortion greeting are three pink stylized snowflakes. Just as frosty is the inside of the card, where no one is wished a politically incorrect Merry Christmas. Planned Parenthooders decided to go with the sanitized and neutered, "Warmest wishes for a peaceful holiday season".

Planned Parenthood is pumping orders for the 2004 Christmas cards on its online store website: " `Tis the season to share with family, friends, colleagues and loved ones the message of `choice on earth’. Place your orders now."

as bold in rhetoric as in strategy, a Planned Parenthood advertisement in the January 30, 1986 edition of the Dallas Observer stated: "If your parents are stupid enough to deny you access to birth control, and you are under 18, you can get it on your own."

But Planned Parenthood flunks when it comes to the creative and originality departments. For its 2004 Christmas card, the organization co-opted one of the most recognized pro-life themes in the Bible--"Peace on Earth"--the same one where an angel heralds the birth of Jesus Christ.

Pro-life groups, who object to the "Choice on Earth" greeting, are in anything but holiday mode.

"In its continual attempt to normalize abortion, Planned Parenthood has once again chosen to offend the Christian community by releasing the latest edition of its `Choice on Earth’ holiday cards," said Jim Sedlak, executive director of STOPP, a group that monitors Planned Parenthood.

"Contrary to the open-minded image the abortion organization aims to present for itself, Planned Parenthood has zero tolerance for anyone--or any religious group--that recognizes abortion as an evil act that kills an unborn baby," Sedlak added.

Tweaking the tails of its adversaries and boasting are part of Planned Parenthood tactics.

Last year, the group claimed national outrage over the card and the public attention it received boosted sales more than 25 percent than the previous year.

"Our holiday card has proven to be very popular with america’s pro-choice majority for almost a decade because it sends an inclusive seasonal message for people of all faiths. I am proud of the card, "Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt said of last year’s design.

Meanwhile the Grinch, who stole Christmas, comes dressed in a skirt.
