The Barbarians are at the Gates

The savage murder and mutilation of four american aid workers last week in Fallujah, Iraq is a graphic illustration of what I wrote about on March 22, namely that we are facing an enemy who sees the world through a totally different paradigm. Our war with the Islamofascists isn’t just a clash of ideas or cultures. It is also a clash of time- the modern age vs. the Middle ages or enlightenment vs. medievalism.

Yes, I know it’s not politically correct to disparage other cultures. I see us endlessly disparaging our own culture in an effort to convey to the rest of the world how nice and good we are. Problem is, the rest of the world, certainly that part steeped in fundamentalist Islamic zeal, doesn’t give a damn about how cosmopolitan we are and is focussing on the more important task of hastening our ultimate demise, whether we are nice or not.

No clash of cultures could be more dramatic than what we witnessed in Fallujah last week and in Mogadishu in 1993. In our wildest fantasies, could we imagine being capable of abusing and desecrating charred corpses, running through the streets in jubilation at another’s violent, horrific death? Could we take a fallen enemy’s corpse and hang it from a bridge as a warning that the same fate may befall others who displease us? What about sending children with explosives strapped to their bodies to be blown up, once they reach a large enough group to reach maximum havoc?

My guess is that there wouldn’t be many in our culture to sink to such levels of depravity. In fact, american forces currently go to great lengths to ensure that collateral damage is held to a minimum. However, this does not hold true for a huge contingent of individuals in the Middle and Far East whose sole goal is the destruction of their perceived enemies. They do not care whom they ally themselves with, nor do they care who gets hurt, so long as they inflict maximum damage on their enemies.

Our ancestors probably behaved in this way some thousand years ago. Certainly the Ostrogoths, Visigoths and Vandals left their mark on the countryside as well as in the collective psyche of those they conquered. Upon invading England, the Normans introduced some very tough measures to keep the conquered English in line. If they found the body of a man who had died violently, it was assumed that the body was that of a Norman soldier, unless the English could prove otherwise. They then went to the nearest village or settlement and imposed extremely stiff financial penalties on the entire town. This kept guerilla activity and resistance to an absolute minimum.

Perhaps it would be wise for the americans to adopt equally tough measures in areas such as Fallujah and Tikrit, where Saddamite loyalists are conducting a campaign of terrorism and atrocities. The old arab proverb that "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" is playing true to form, as old insults are forgotten in the interest of harming the common enemy, namely the Great Satan, america and its allies.

We do not often get to witness events such as the one in Fallujah, as the so-called mainstream media is fairly circumspect in what they are prepared to show us. Following the destruction of the World Trade Centre and the death of some 3,000 innocent people, large crowds of people took to the streets throughout the Middle East to celebrate, an event that was hardly mentioned in any of our so-called mainstream media. The wild jubilation that occurs when some cataclysmic event befalls us or Israel goes largely unreported by our media for fear that it would stir up sympathy for Israel or for what we are doing about terrorism. This also stands in stark contrast to how we behave toward them when tragedy befalls them. The earthquake that recently struck Iran, killing over 80,000 is a case in point. Instead of jubilating about the tragedy, we offered to assist the victims.

The leftists and appeasers are calling the actions of the terrorists "desperate measures" borne of impotence and frustration, a reaction to being a subjugated people, lashing out against their oppressors and other equally disingenuous tripe.

Civilized people see it for what it is: barbarism in its rawest form, the behaviour of wild animals that have no place in civilized society. But, then, these so-called guerillas are the remnants of Saddam Hussein’s Fedayeen. They are the people that wish and hope for the return of the monster that murdered close to 400,000 of his own people, so that he could ensure an unopposed reign. also keep in mind that these are the very people who mourn the "tragedy of andalucia", an event that saw the Islamic invaders kicked out of Spain by King Ferdinand in 1492. anyone who would carry a grudge for that long certainly qualifies for status under the mad dog definition.

attitudes this deep seated also carry some tremendous implications for the Liberals’ shibboleth, multiculturalism. Multiculturalism is that warm and fuzzy concept we all love to tout when talking about how great it is to live in a society where foods and goods from around the world are readily available just down the street. The soft underbelly of multiculturalism is the disconnect between the civilized societal norm to which those of us who are indigenous to the West are accustomed and what we just witnessed in Fallujah.

There is already a clamouring by Islamic clerics and followers to recognize Sharia, or the law of Islam, under Canada’s legal system. Under a multicultural banner it is highly possible that one day Muslim thieves will have their hands cut off and adulteresses will be publicly stoned in our cities. It’s the strongest argument that I can think of to support abandonment of multiculturalism.
