From U.S. President to President of the World

Toronto-- Forever a legend in his own mind, William Jefferson Clinton is angling to leave history as the "President of the United States who went on as President of the World." Make that "President of the United States to President of the World with a wife in the White House."

While wife Hillary, who covets replacing President George W. Bush, wants violent video games probed, hubby William ("Don't call me Bill") is putting the strategy in place to take over from the oil-for-food beleaguered UN Secretary-General Kofi annan.

Lately launched is The Clinton Global Initiative website. Crammed with lofty ideas, that come right out of the scribbler of chief one world government advocate, Canadian Maurice Strong, Clinton's Global Initiative homepage is the blueprint for a UN takeover.

The gameplan is to once a year gather in New York for an annual convention before the UN convenes in September. The convention, a copy of the Davos World Economic Forum held annually in Switzerland, will solve some of the world's most pressing problems.

In his planned rise to world power, the only elected president ever impeached, is not alone. Clinton's lineup already includes such heavyweights as King abdullah II of Jordan, French President Jacques Chirac, Prime Minister Tony Blair, Time Warner CEO Dick Parsons, Rupert Murdoch of News Corp. and Starbuck's Chairman Howard Schultz, amongst many others.

But there will be a difference between WJC's Global Initiative convention and film star-studded Davos.

Explains Clinton: "If you don't want to promise to do something, don't come to my meeting. Stay home."

Take that, Chairman Mo.

With a presidential career ruined by Monica Lewinsky, Clinton's global initiative will explore the best methods to reduce poverty.

UN Secretary General Kofi annan's tenure runs out in 2006, so Clinton's first convention is expected sometime before the UN convenes come September.

Besides eradicating world poverty, there will be three items for Pooh-bahs to choose from the convention agenda: "Use religion as a force for reconciliation and conflict resolution; implement new business strategies and technologies to combat climate change and strengthen governance."

Delegates who dined on caviar while grappling with world poverty in Johannesburg better bring their notebooks to Clinton's Global Initiatives convention. at the end of the convention each participant would be required to sign a card pledging to do something tangible that will help advance one of the four stated goals.

Most of these promises would be enacted during subsequent UN proceedings. But be careful what you promise, Pooh-Bahs because the initiative will be checking up on you.

No word yet whether former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, who has his own initiative with Maurice Strong his partner in the infamous Earth Charter is ready to decamp.

Only silence so far from the Hillary campaign about what the Initiative can do for her fevered bid for the White House.

But as sure as the hostility with which the outside world regards americans, Bill (sorry, William) Clinton is doing something no one else could ever do. He's making Kofi annan look like good UN Secretary General re-appointment material.
