The LLa has learned that the Lanark, Leeds & Grenville Health unit has requested and will receive police participation during their raids on the Perth & Carleton Place Farmers markets this Saturday (September 24).
While the health unit has stated they seek dialogue on one hand and there is a task force studying the extension of the farm gate sales to farmers markets: on the other hand they set out to intimidate farmers and vendors. The doublespeak and double standards of the health unit is further evidence of unaccountablity and incompetence.
I ask all members and supporters of the Landowners', and all those who support farmers markets to come to Perth or Carleton Place Farmers markets this Saturday, and stand with the Landowners as we deny the inspectors entry into the markets.
We shall stand together in a strong and determined, but peaceful disobedient stance and disallow the heavy hand of bureaucratic injustice to slap fines upon our farmers and our neighbors. We will stop the bureaucracies attempt to destroy another facet of rural Ontario.
The raids are planned between 8:00 a.m. and noon
