Opinions

Enough with the negativity, already

God, to listen to the Democrats, you'd think the United States was a fascist juggernaut, while the so-called Iraqi insurgents and their al Qaeda cohorts were brave freedom fighters seeking to liberate their precious homeland from a force more evil than Darth Vader. I am beginning to wonder if people like Howard Dean, Richard Durbin, Patrick Leahy, Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton are attempting to establish a government in absentia with their constant proclamations about how the U.S. is guilty of crimes against humanity or some such tripe. The fact is the U.S. is at war and for a sitting official of the government to make statements like those emanating from the mouths of Durbin and his friends one would get the impression that they are rooting for the other side.

Now don't get me wrong. I am not advocating forcing these people to be silenced or charging hem with treason, as some are advocating. I think that the american voters will take care of that next election, thank you very much. But one would think that individuals who have had political careers would be more circumspect in their pronouncements regarding the actions of their government-particularly during times of war. Dick Durbin's now famous slander of U.S. troops behaving like "Nazis" must be one of the most ignorant pronouncements to come from the mouth of any politician, left or right, since Richard Nixon said "I am not a crook."

It's a known fact that I am no fan of the Democrats, particularly since the time Bill Clinton sat in the White House, but I cannot imagine how anyone else could be a fan of the Dems as day in and day out they shoot themselves in the foot. Durbin was so frothing at the mouth in his condemnation of american soldiers' behavior at Guantanamo that he went with a triple-header, equating their actions to Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot, who jointly were responsible for over 24 million deaths. One would think that Durbin might substantiate his charges by citing an equally impressive number of deaths at Guantanamo, but in the absence of there having been any, he has to inflate his invective to the absurd.

In case the Dems have forgotten, this whole thing started with the first attack on the World Trade Center back in February 1993. No one provoked this attack unless supporting Israel, the only democracy in the Middle, east could be counted as a provocation. This was followed quickly by the attack against the USS Cole and the bombing of american Embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam by al Qaeda. all this took place under Clinton's watch, who was too busy with trying to plot out his next sexual escapade to deal with attacks against U.S. interests. and when americans finally decided they have had enough of the Democrats' brand of foreign policy and chose a president who refused to turn the other cheek, they resort to calling him a fascist.

as Dick Durbin is so fond of saying, "what comes around, goes around" also applies to him and his party. Durbin, a senator from Illinois, made a very powerful enemy when slandering american troops. Richard Daley, the Democrat mayor of Chicago was deeply offended by Durbin's remark and didn't mind letting the world know. Daley's son is serving as a Ranger in the U.S. army, who considered the remarks made by Durbin and other Democrats as a direct assault on their integrity.

Every now and then it might be politic for the Democrats to remind themselves that america is at war. americans did not destroy the World Trade Centre, kill nearly 3,000 people or damage the Pentagon. It was members of the same group of dangerous killers now being held at Gitmo that perpetrated the atrocities of 9/11. Some of these have been released and then re-captured in places like afghanistan and Iraq attempting to kill more americans.

Extraordinary times call for extraordinary actions. albeit, holding over 500 terrorists at Guantanamo can hardly be described as "extraordinary actions", given the fact that every one of the prisoners there is now in better health than they were when first captured.

If Durbin and his Democrat buddies want to see some real "atrocities" they might want to watch the video of Daniel Pearl having his head sawed off while vainly begging for his life. Or they might want to watch the brutal murder and incineration of the four american aid workers, one of whose bodies was hung from a bridge after having been mutilated. That's called an atrocity. Holding enemy combatants at Gitmo is called good sense.
