David Miller — a true Ontarian

Since the Gomery Commission moved to Montreal and began hearing from the various advertising executives and political bagmen, Canadians have been inundated with details of the Liberal Party sleaze and corruption on an almost daily basis. Since the nitty gritty began to emerge, the Liberals have been in a freefall at the polls; everywhere except in atlantic Canada and Ontario.

It is understandable why the Liberals still garner support in the Maritimes. after all, due to high unemployment rates and a high dependence upon seasonal work the easternmost provinces are more dependent upon Employment Insurance and other government largess than is the rest of the country. as it is highly unlikely that the Conservative Party would be more generous to atlantic Canada if they were in power, it is easy to understand why Maritimers would still support the fumbling Liberals.

This argument of course does not apply to Ontario, the so-called economic engine of Canada and a "have" province. Yet as the anger builds up against the Liberals in Quebec and in the West, the best the Tories seem to be able to do in Ontario is go neck and neck with the government. There has to be some explanation for the province’s still strong support for the party that stole and otherwise misused the hard earned money of the taxpayers.

Toronto Mayor David Miller’s comments perhaps show some insight into why support for the Liberals is still strong in this province. Miller, in his views towards the Liberals is no different than those of the thousands of Ontarians who seem to justify the federal Liberals remaining in power no matter what they do or how corrupt they have become.

David’s Miller’s reasons for being supportive of the federal Liberals can be summed up in three words — me, me, me!

Concerning the possibility of the Liberals falling and an election being called, Miller was quoted as saying, "The evidence I’ve heard recently [from the Gomery inquiry] I’m appalled by. It resonates very much with the kind of things we heard in the city of Toronto in the MFP scandal. It would be more appalling to not pass the programs that are before Parliament, that have a direct impact on people’s lives in a very immediate way." To Miller, like many on the pampered left, the end justifies the means. as long as he gets what "he" wants; what "he" thinks that the government should do, then it really doesn’t matter how corrupt the government is. as long as the federal government kicks in what Miller thinks they should for affordable housing, public transit and a host of other things, he is willing to look the other way if the government is involved in acts of theft, corruption, fraud, forgery and money laundering. It is a clear case of moral relativism; what the Liberals do can be forgiven as long as they apply their ill gotten gains to what the mayor thinks they should. If David Miller was capable of looking beyond his own needs and had any sense of morality, he would never have equated out and out theft with funding mass transit.

The way Miller views Liberal Party corruption is no different than the way many Ontarians who still support the government view them. as long as they are getting what they want, the fact that the government is, or may be totally corrupt doesn’t really matter.

You have to wonder what David Miller would think if he lived in Zimbabwe and he was the mayor of Harare. What would he think of Robert Mugabe seizing property, jailing political prisoners and starving his own people? The sad reality is that Miller wouldn’t care; as long as Mugabe funded mass transit and affordable housing.

and what his sadder still is that many Ontarians wouldn’t care either.
