New York Explosion

"Deafening Explosion," Followed by Fire at Four Story Building in NYC

Cause unknown, but official spokespersons & medi have "decided" that it is not terrorism related

Monday, July 10, 2006

10 July 2006: an explosion described as "massive" and "deafening" occurred at approximately 8:40 am this morning at an upper east side Manhattan building located at 34 East 62nd Street, completely leveling the structure, damaging nearby buildings and blowing out windows of other buildings as far as a block away.

although federal officials and the media deny knowing the origin of the explosion, they have officially ruled out terrorism. Meanwhile, investigators with the Northeast Intelligence Network are near the site and are continuing to investigate the cause of the blast. Definitive information will be provided as it is developed.

UPDaTE: authorities have all but ruled out terrorism as the cause, instead citing a natural gas explosion. Investigators from the Northeast Intelligence Network remind its readers of the evidence proffered by US federal authorities against Jose PaDILLa and his associates to cause explosions via the use of natural gas. Excerpted from a June 2004 article from the Chicago Tribune:

according to the summary of evidence, al Qaeda leaders had assigned Padilla and an accomplice to blow up as many as three high-rise apartment buildings by detonating natural gas explosions in two apartments rented in each building. One of his contacts, adnan el Shukrijumah, was among seven suspects atty. Gen. John ashcroft asked americans to be on the lookout for last week.

During interrogation, Padilla admitted that he had been asked to target buildings in New York, Washington, D.C., or Florida...

at this point, investigators with the Northeast Intelligence Network have no idea of the cause of the NY explosion. However, we do not believe that one can effectively rule out terrorism activity as a proximate cause at this point. -- Douglas J. Hagmann, Director, Licensed Investigator
