The US Senate has been very busy the last few days before recess, doing the people's business, though it clearly wasn't the american people's business. You can rest easy on the old partisan bickering. Senators on both sides of the aisle stand firmly on the wrong side of our nation's most important issue, national sovereignty and security.
By a 62-36 vote, the US Senate decided to ignore the overwhelming will of the american people by passing a legislative measure that can only be seen as a giant leap forward in the process of erasing american borders. Led by liberal Republican John McCain (ariz.) and socialist Democrat Teddy Kennedy (Mass.), the Senate authorized illegal immigration, legitimizing those who have broken into our home land illegally, while making those who have taken great pains to arrive here "by-the-book", feel like fools.
The american people see this measure as at best, a repeat of the 1986 amnesty bill that promised to stop illegal immigration in exchange for a one time amnesty of some 3 million illegals already here at that time. Since then, obviously, between 11 and 20 million more illegals have poured into our country through wide open borders and the Senate wants to sell the same old promises once again. Fool me once, shame on you, but twice?
The vast majority of americans (and the House) call it "amnesty" and they are against the measure. But Senator Kennedy says "This is the most far-reaching immigration reform in our history," - "It is a comprehensive and realistic attempt to solve the real-world problems that have festered too long in our broken immigration system." Senator (and Presidential hopeful) John McCain said "Some americans believe we must find all these millions, round them up and send them back to the countries they came from," - "I don't know how you do that. and I don't know why you would want to."
These two senators and 60 others like them, have broken ranks with the american people and are operating outside of their sworn obligation to protect and defend our american borders, and uphold the laws of this land. Like the United Nations and the Council on Foreign Relations, 39 Democrats and 23 Republicans in the senate see illegal immigration as a victimless crime that should be swept under the rug with the legislative broom. But the american people are all too familiar with the very real victims of this crime.
Though the senate has been warning americans of impending bankruptcy in our Social Security system for years now, it didn't even cause a moment's pause in their vote to authorize Social Security payments to non-US citizens living and working here "illegally". 50 US senators voted to keep benefits for illegals alive in the people's senate, 39 democrats and 11 republicans.
There is no mistaking who the victims of this crime might be, the american citizens who have been faithfully paying into the Social Security system all of their lives in the belief that their elected representatives would guarantee the security of that system for their retirement years. Yet these elected representatives can't pass up an opportunity to raid that fund, even for benefit of people who do not belong here at all.
These senators may become the target of an all-american effort to clean house come the mid-term election in November 2006 and again in 2008.
alaska:The american people are fast arriving at a time and place where they can no longer allow themselves to be divided by liberal versus conservative, democrat versus republican, or even on the basis of selfish petty special interest social issues. We must sooner or later begin to see things as they really exist, in terms of "un-american" versus "american".
"american" is simply that which loves, supports, protects and defends american ideals and principles, certainly beginning with american sovereignty and security, at our nation's borders if nowhere else. all those who stand opposed, whether democrat or republican, should be deemed un-american and treated accordingly, regardless of past performance or party affiliation.
The american people have spoken loud and clear on the subject of illegal immigration. Now that their elected representatives in the senate have spoken loud and clear, taken a firm stance opposed to the will of legal american citizens, for benefit of illegal aliens, the american people must do the balance of their talking at the polls in November.
If the american people play partisanship at the polls this November, instead of voting american versus un-american on the basis of individual performance by individual officials, then they will deserve whatever un-american outcome they get.
The people have been very outspoken on the topic, even enraged. are we prepared to be equally outspoken this November? are we able to ignore the traditional partisan campaign rhetoric and remember the votes these people cast? I fear for the future of a nation which lacks the conviction to vote its conscience, in favor of pure partisanship.
