Massive Fax Initiative to Pardon Border Agents Exceeds 70,000 Faxes to House Leadership

Grassoots action surpasses 50,000 goal in less than one-week

CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- Grassfire.org Alliance, one of the key organizations in the on going push to free imprisoned Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, launched a massive fax initiative last week to rally Congressional co-sponsors and support for Rep. Duncan Hunter's H.R. 563, legislation calling for a full pardon of Ramos and Compean.

Less than one-week into the campaign, more than 70,000 faxes have been scheduled to members of the House and House leadership--with more citizens scheduling faxes each day. "Grassroots Americans refuse to forget about Ramos and Compean and the horrific miscarriage of justice perpetrated against them," says Steve Elliott, president of Grassfire.org Alliance. "The fact that we've far exceeded our goal in less than one week is proof positive that Americans want justice on behalf of Ramos and Compean."

The FaxFire fax initiative gives citizens an opportunity to send personalized faxes to their Congressman as well as the more than 300 members of Congress who have yet to sponsor the Hunter bill.

"These respected lawmen have been away from their families and in solitary confinement for 104 days. That's exactly 104 days too many," says Elliott, who added that the President's repeated refusal to do the right thing in this case motivated him to look toward the House for support. "There's growing bipartisan support for the agents, and Duncan Hunter's legislation is our best opportunity to free these men and return them to their families."

In addition to the massive fax initiative, Grassfire.org has also rallied more than 350,000 citizens to sign a national petition to free Ramos and Compean.
