When Americans try to think back to the first instance of political corruption they can recall, President Nixon and Watergate seems about as far back as most of us can remember. But to be sure, corruption in politics has been around as long as politics itself and although efforts to saddle the other team with the title of "corrupt" is a practice just as old, folks willing to consider the facts would hardly call it a partisan matter.
The honest answer to the headline question is, not really.
Though Democrats want to own the campaign battle cry "culture of corruption" today, the facts would indicate that they actually may have cornered the market on political corruption long ago.
It's no secret that throughout the Clinton Administration years, political corruption became a daily headline. In fact, if you are talking endless scandals, crimes and political corruption, the Clintons set an all-time world record in that arena.
The Clinton Corruption Record 1992 – 2000 (the short list)
• The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
• Most number of convictions and guilty pleas by friends and associates
• Most number of cabinet officials to come under criminal investigation
• Most number of witnesses to flee country or refuse to testify
• Most number of witnesses to die suddenly
• First president sued for sexual harassment.
• First president accused of rape.
• First first lady to come under criminal investigation
• Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
• First president to establish a legal defense fund.
• First president to be held in contempt of court
• Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
• Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
• First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court
Though Democrats worked to convince American voters that the Clintons' worst offenses were nothing more than sex, a tawdry oval office affair with a young intern, the fact is, the items in bold above were some of the real crimes swept under the carpet while the public was misdirected and focused on sex pistol Bill… It's political slight-of-hand, for which war-room veterans like Dick Morris and James Carville became infamous.
Though Clinton was indeed impeached and disbarred for his cover-up and perjury, congressional Democrats refused to remove him from office, claiming that it was all about Clinton's private personal sexual misconduct, not the hundreds of real criminal acts that were common throughout both his state and presidential administrations. They would elect him again today if they could, and will elect his wife if possible, just to get Bubba back into the oval office.
Even though Democrats later convinced Americans that the fall of Enron was attached to the Bush administration, Documents actually Link Enron's Fall to more Clinton 'Corruption'.
Democrats won control of congress in 2006 by marching to the mantra of a "Republican Culture of Corruption," but it was Democrats Clinton who were investigated for campaign funding fraud and Democrat Attorney General Janet Reno who buried the Thompson Report.
The senate investigation concluded with a call for independent prosecution of the Clintons for numerous fraudulent campaign activities, which might have even crossed the line into acts of treason for selling secret technologies to China and beyond in return for illegal campaign contributions that landed bagman Johnny Chung in prison.
It was a pro-Clinton liberal press, who refused to tell the American people everything the Clintons had done to contribute to a far more dangerous world… including the events of 9/11. It was the press who kept Americans transfixed on numerous sex scandals and unaware of real Clinton misconduct. Thompson headed the senate investigation.
This might explain why in a recent DNC fund raising letter to Democrat supporters titled "The Inside-Outsider," DNC Executive Director Tom McMahon launched a first salvo against Thompson, "Remember the Republican culture of corruption? The revolving door of Republican politicians moving in and out of top political offices and Washington D.C. lobbying firms? That's Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson."
Fred Thompson was assigned the duty of leading a Senate investigation into numerous Clinton campaign scandals involving the selling of American secrets and White House access to foreign enemies of the state. That effort ended with a very detailed report documenting numerous fraudulent Clinton activities, calling for independent prosecution, a call which was deep sixed by Clinton Attorney General Janet Reno.
It can't remain unstated that those campaign scandals were confirmed and documented in the Thompson Report, or that they did actually result in the sharing of top American secrets that now have nuclear technologies in the hands of China, North Korea and Iran, all in return for illegal Clinton/Gore campaign donations.
Now Mrs. Bill Clinton, defendant in yet another campaign fraud law suit tied to her NY senate campaign, may well face Fred Thompson in a 2008 White House bid. Thompson would be the absolute last person Democrats would want to face in any presidential election. So, the DNC mud-slinging machine is already in overdrive, before Thompson even formally announces.
DNC Chairman Howard Dean sent a follow-up letter a couple days later, saying - "As you probably know, we've got a big job here. Right now it's up to us -- not the 2008 Democratic candidates -- to take on Fred Thompson, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and the rest of the Republican presidential hopefuls. And that's why we need your help."
Dean is once again trying to define the legitimate tradition of "lobbying," as "corruption," applying the recently successful DNC mantra to Thompson - "For years, acting wasn't the Law & Order star's profession -- it was a hobby. In the real world, Thompson has made a fortune in a decades-long career as a Washington lobbyist." As if legal lobbying work is a crime or a practice aimed only at Republican leaders. Only a fool would fall for such a notion.
Today's Democrats have a very strange sense of justice.
Scooter Libby was found to have no wrong doing in the alleged disclosure of a CIA operative's identity, which was no secret to begin with. He was found to have only a faulty memory concerning two dates, in which he was off by less than 72 hours in his recall, constituting "perjury" in the minds of all liberals. He's about to go to prison for that memory lapse concerning a leak case that we now know, never actually happened.
Meanwhile, Democrat Clinton & Kerry advisor Sandy Berger, was caught stealing Top Secret national security documents from the national archives, in an almost "world's stupidest criminal" style, and he will get no prison time at all. In fact, he will be working for Democrats and the Clintons to secure another Clinton victory in '08. Yet Democrats tell us they are concerned with Washington corruption? They want "justice"?
The facts indicate that it is Dean, Democrats and their adoring press, who have hoodwinked the American people, on behalf of the Clintons, the Gores and the Kerrys.
John Kerry has still, as of today, never signed the form he promised to sign during his 2004 presidential bid, releasing his entire military record. Yet nobody in the press asks why, including Tim Russert, who extracted the reluctant promise on national TV.
As of today, the Thompson Report documenting a long history of crime, corruption and possible treason in the Clinton administration, remains buried in the bottom drawer right where Janet Reno left it. And the press asks no questions, as China, North Korea and Iran now attempt to hold America hostage with the threat of nuclear proliferation, made possible by Clinton campaign funding scandals still not prosecuted, even as another Clinton runs for office.
Now Howard Dean and Tom McMahon work to refocus their idiot minions upon the legal lobby practices of Fred Thompson under the heading of a concern for a culture of corruption?
Lobby work is as old as Democracy itself, and for good reason. Anywhere the federal government plays, setting policies that effect commerce, free enterprise, employment, fair trade and industry, those who are effected by such policies have a right and a responsibility to lobby (read: communicate with) those policy makers. It is an entirely democratic practice when done legitimately.
The question is whether or not those lobby efforts are in some way "corrupted". When they are, they should be stopped and prosecuted. Any such effort would have to begin with the Clintons.
Anyone honestly concerned with corrupt lobbying practices or a culture of corruption in Washington MUST take a close look at the lobbying efforts of China, Enron, Labor Unions, George Soros, MoveOn.org, and literally hundreds of others who have spent billions to buy Washington Democrats, the Clintons in particular.
No American truly concerned with political corruption can look at the long history of Democrat corruption and conclude that corruption is a partisan matter, unless they conclude that it is a Democrat culture. Even then, Republicans are not without flaw today.
I challenge every Democrat claiming to be concerned with Washington corruption to read the Thompson Report on Clinton corruption. No modern politician, Democrat or Republican, is in the same league with the Clintons' when talking corruption and any studied voter knows it.
Tell me why Sandy Berger is free to work for the DNC? Then tell me why Scooter Libby is going to jail for getting a couple dates wrong in an investigation that proved there was no underlying crime?
No honest American can look at these facts and listen to Democrat lies for one more second, unless their agenda is simply more important than truth or justice…which I suspect to be the case for many Democrats.
Howard Dean and Tom McMahon are pure outright liars and they know it, even though their many blind minions don't.
When George Bush Sr. promised "no new taxes", he lied. When George Bush Jr. promised less wasteful spending, shock and awe against our enemies, secure borders and conservative values, he lied…
When Democrats claim to care about corruption while writing the playbook on corruption, they are lying too. I will seek to expose ALL liars, no matter what party they belong to. But clearly, Democrats can not say the same!
Maybe Fred Thompson should center his campaign upon one simple promise, - To finally bring the Clintons' to justice.
After all, no honest effort to clean up Washington could ever overlook the Clintons. It's not about revenge; - it's about justice and an honest government, isn't it? It's about ending the real culture of corruption, right?
Law and Order Fred might just be the perfect sheriff to clean up Washington. He hasn't just put TV bad guys in jail. He's done it in real life and the Clintons would be out of business today if not for Janet Reno and the Democrat culture of corruption, to include the liberal press who continues to bury these stories even today.
Let's not kid each other! Political corruption might be the only bi-partisan thing in Washington today.
But if your interest in the Washington culture of corruption does not include an interest in the Clintons, then forgive me if I don't take your concern so seriously!
