A Willingness To Fight

A Willingness To FightImagine a world in which people of different nations work together, unconstrained by fear of nuclear holocaust, tyranny’s oppression, or the lurking subconscious “Chicken Little” psychological preoccupation with imminent annihilation resulting from inter-continental ballistic missiles raining down from above, as if the sky really were falling. Such will be the case in the Kingdom awaiting the faithful, but not before then. As Bataan Death March survivor General Jonathan Wainwright said, “Peace is a militant state, not secured by wishful thinking. To be sure of liberty, we must be willing to fight for it.”
Since successfully struggling for her independence nearly two and a half centuries ago, America has always been willing to fight. She has always provided her people security and ample opportunities to make dreams come true, not because she trusts sham organizations like the United Nations or because she adopts a bunker, isolationist mentality in times of global unrest: Her liberty exists because she remains strong militarily, and when necessary, takes the fight to those who hate freedom. The people of this nation — this hallowed land that is the shining light of hope for those enduring oppression in other countries — must always choose leaders who willingly stand up to the responsibility of protecting and preserving all that America has been, and all that she will ever be, against a different kind of enemy — well-funded, well-armed, well-trained, and well-positioned, not only outside her borders, but also within them. This enemy is composed of religious zealots and terrorists — the most determined foes America has ever faced. They hate this country with every fiber of their being, and share one goal that burns like a hot brand in their minds: Destroy America, the Great Satan. American soldiers are trained to defeat opposing military forces while preserving their own lives and those of their countrymen. By contrast, this enemy’s troops are trained to kill American soldiers and innocent, unarmed civilians as well. For them, the value of human lives — even their own — seems meaningless. They strap on explosives and blow themselves up, just so they can slaughter everyone around them, certain that committing such heinous atrocities guarantees eternal reward.

This enemy will never go away. Détente, compromise, mediation, assimilation, concessions, and appeasement — all such things are laughable to this enemy that is determined to exalt its religion to a position of predominance over all others. When Americans go to the polls, they must be mindful of this extremely dangerous enemy. They must decide whether to vote for articulate charismatic individuals with no military experience and little respect for America’s warriors, who scoff at the dangers these fighting men and women face by placing themselves in harm’s way or even sacrificing their lives to defend freedom. Or, voters must go all out to elect leaders who respect and honor not only active duty personnel but also veterans — leaders who love this great nation and will never lose sight of that on which the American way of life depends: a willingness to fight.
