Taxpayers Federation reacts to Ethics Commissioner’s report, calls for reforms

OTTAWA, ON: Canadian Taxpayers Federation Federal Director Aaron Wudrick released the following statement in response to Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion’s report finding that Prime Minister Trudeau contravened the Conflict of Interest Act: “Commissioner Dion’s finding that the prime minister has again violated the Conflict of Interest Act should alarm all Canadians concerned about ethical behaviour in government. “In order to avoid a repeat of this scandal and strengthen accountability in the future, the CTF is calling on all party leaders to commit to two policy reforms in advance of the coming election: separating the roles of the minister of justice and the attorney general; and ending the use of ‘trojan-horse’ omnibus legislation to implement laws without proper scrutiny and debate.”
