The VA Fails Our Veterans Again! -- Start the New Year off right!

The VA Fails Our Veterans Again! -- Start the New Year off right!Fellow Americans: So, how was your New Year’s Day? Presumably, most all of us spent it safely and quietly in the comfort of our own private residence. That’s because men and women on active duty in our U.S. Military – Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard – have pledged their lives to protect us for nearly two-and-a-half centuries.
Famed author George Orwell put it into perspective: “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.” Yet, while we sleep safely in our beds because of the sacrifices of our Active Duty men and women in Uniform, thousands-upon-thousands of war-injured and impoverished U.S. Military Veterans live homeless and hungry on the streets of Los Angeles, even directly outside the Los Angeles VA property that was deeded exclusively in 1888 to be permanently maintained as a “National Home” for disabled and destitute Veterans. See attached overview of photos (Below in a PDF File) yesterday of homeless Veterans outside the VA, including signage at the public parking lot used for the benefit of Brentwood Village shoppers and diners, on Federal VA property. Recently, for more than two years, the merchants and shoppers at Brentwood Village illegally occupied nearly four acres of Veterans VA land – rent free – for a public parking lot while Los Angeles remains our nation’s capital for homeless Veterans. Not once during those two years did anyone associated with Brentwood Village, including Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, Brentwood Community Council, L.A. City Councilman Mike Bonin, Congressman Ted Lieu, WLA VA executive director Ann Brown, etc., complain that this was immoral, unethical or illegal, which it was and still is. Homeless Veterans

As soon as the VA put a stop to it a few months ago and started charging a pittance for public parking, there was an unparalleled uproar and outrage by the illegal users and defrauders. Their overwhelming sense of entitlement to Veterans property and their complete indignation and disrespect toward our homeless Veterans -- must cease, posthaste. On behalf of all U.S. Military Veterans, this is a Demand Notice to VA Secretary Robert L. Wilkie, to honor the VA-OIG’s September 28, 120-page Report and immediately evict all the illegal occupants – Brentwood Village public parking, wealthy and private Brentwood School sports complex, UCLA baseball diamond, City of Los Angeles’s “rent free” 12-acre public dog park, Breitburn Energy, et al oil drilling, Veterans Park Conservancy so-called “Rose Garden,” etc. Demand Notice to immediately remove this gigantic dishonest and disrespectful sign at the illegal Brentwood Village parking lot on Federal VA property: Please note how this humongous propaganda sign in Brentwood Village falsely flaunts the Five Branches of the U.S. Military, including the insulting lie that the so-called parking fees “Support L.A. Area Veterans,” while war-injured and impoverished homeless Veterans live on the public sidewalk outside the VA just a short distance away. Also attached (Below in a PDF File) are the entrances to the largest (and most corrupt) VA in the nation and there isn’t even a sign designating that this is a Medical Center for U.S. Military Veterans. Check around the VA and see if you can find the logos of the Five Branches of the U.S. Military that our Veterans once served. Notice how even the VA logo is totally disrespected.

Let’s start the New Year with old-time values, ethics and morality by protecting and preserving the National Veterans Home exclusively for all our U.S. Military Veterans. Remember: “Today’s Troops Are Tomorrow’s Veterans.” And for the record, all this illegal use of VA land and abuse of homeless Veterans has been going on for decades. Currently, we have a new Executive Director at the Los Angeles VA, Dr. Steven Braverman, a retired Colonel and 30-year Medical Doctor of the U.S. Army. In the past, none of the Executive Directors were Veterans, nor were they Doctors, and they shamefully served the local non-Veteran robber barons first and foremost. However, if left alone to do his Duty to our Veterans, Dr. Braverman can responsibly transform this historically corrupt VA into a major model of ethics, morality and legality for the rest of the nation's VAs to follow. But he cannot do it so long as the local elite and so-called "stakeholders" continue to illegally use this land and facilities for their own benefit while defrauding disabled Veterans of their housing and healthcare benefits. “Save Our Veterans Land” and “Bring Our Homeless Veterans HOME.” God Bless America and the Veterans Revolution!
