Death of Humor Over At Saturday Night Live

Death of Humor Over At Saturday Night LiveSaturday Night Live (SNL) is dying, and not even its Good-Old-Days Fr. Guido Sarducci can administer them last rites. “On his first appearance on Saturday Night Live, a skit called "How to Pay for Your Sins" on a 1978 episode hosted by Richard Dreyfuss, he (Fr. Sarducci) was on crutches from an injury suffered during a dress rehearsal sketch about hockey players. Most of his appearances on SNL have been on Weekend Update, including one where he reported that "The take at the shrines in Italy has gone down" which he suggested correcting by creating "Shrinemobiles" and thus taking the shrines to where the people were, and another where he is sent to London to try to wake up Paul McCartney at 4:30 in the morning (11:30 in New York) by throwing coins, obnoxiously singing The Beatles and Wings songs, and finally, throwing a rock at the window — he says it works every time. SNL’s biggest death toll comes directly from the death of its humor, which was traded off for political correctness

Later came hilarious Chris Farley's ‘Motivational Speaker’ Matt Foley:, “the man who lived in a van down by the river” But those were in the Good Old Days when tuning in on Saturday Night Live guaranteed viewers a good laugh. Nowadays they’re sadly losing some of their most talented cast members: ‘SNL Cast Member Peter Aykroyd, Brother of Dan, Dead at 66’ (New York Post, Nov. 22, 2021). “Norm Macdonald, the deadpan stand-up comic and beloved “Saturday Night Live” alum, died Tuesday after a private nine-year battle with cancer. He was 61”. (New York Post, Sept. 14, 2021) But SNL’s biggest death toll comes directly from the death of its humor, which was traded off for political correctness.

'SNL' Weekend Update Falls Flat with Rittenhouse Jokes’

'SNL' Weekend Update Falls Flat with Rittenhouse Jokes’ (Breitbart, Nov. 21, 2021)
Saturday Night Live (SNL)’s Michael Che attacked Kyle Rittenhouse during the latest Weekend Update segment, stating, “hopefully he got all of that shooting out of his system before he becomes a cop.” “On Friday, Kyle Rittenhouse was found not guilty in the murder of two men during a Black Lives Matter protest,” Che said. “So hopefully, he got all of that shooting out of his system before he becomes a cop.” “Protests are being held all around the country in response to the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse, which is brave, because Rittenhouse just got off for shooting protesters. I don’t know, maybe don’t tempt him?” the SNL host added. “Che then suggested presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson deserve to be canceled as he shifted to a different topic. “A Washington, D.C. art school is postponing renaming its theatre after alumni Dave Chappelle following his Netflix special controversy,” he said. "He then added, “Well, of course, because God forbid you should name a building after someone problematic in Washington, D.C.,” while the screen beside him displayed photos of the Washington monument and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Long gone are the days when SNL skits left their fans in rollicking laughter

“Che is not the only member of the entertainment elite to attack Rittenhouse following Friday’s jury verdict, which found the 18-year-old not guilty of all charges. “As the news Rittenhouse’s innocence was announced, leftists across social media began having a collective meltdown. Many of those who freaked out over the verdict included left-wing Hollywood celebrities and elites who piled on Rittenhouse, blaming “white” male “privilege” for the not guilty verdict. “Actress Rachel Zegler, the star of the upcoming film adaption of West Side Story, oddly claimed that Rittenhouse’s not guilty verdict “is the epitome of white privilege and exactly what is wrong with this godforsaken country.” “During the trial, ABC’s Designated Survivor writer Pat Cunnane also focused on Rittenhouse’s skin color, insisting that “if he weren’t white, he probably wouldn’t be on trial. Because he’d be dead.” “On the same day of Rittenhouse’s acquittal, another young man — who is black — claiming he fired a gun in self-defense was also found not guilty of murder. “A jury found Andrew ‘A.J.’ Coffee IV, 27, not guilty of second-degree felony murder, three counts of attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer by discharging a firearm and one count of shooting or throwing a deadly missile,” TC Palm reported.
Long gone are the days when SNL skits left their fans in rollicking laughter. Now that they’ve left humor behind for raw politics and their Swan Song is being sung, SNL is about as funny as Kamala Harris’ signature giggle.
