It seems that both PE Trudeau and JP Trudeau found socialism compelling, and both were driven to force controls upon Canadians. Now, would anyone in their right mind willingly subject themselves to servitude, confiscatory taxation and poverty? Dystopia needs to be guilefully and relentlessly imposed through the employment of fear. And lately it has been COVID and Climate and while the former is no longer motivating, bad weather caused by bad people has been the message. Petroleum energy is verboten and because of superstitions about nitrogen agricultural productivity must be reduced.
The first Trudeau was clever and could recite the ravings of intellectual control freaks with considerable articulation. He could even add to the dialogue. As recorded by his stammering on video clips, the second is slow of wit and almost bereft of articulation. Not quite up to being a substitute drama teacher. Both JT and PET strongly admired communism, with the latter specifically naming Communist China and the former Soviet Union. Trudeau the younger has many times stated his admiration for today’s Communist China.
However, both won elections for the Liberal Party of Canada and then each became far more authoritarian than the Partly would like. So long as the Party was winning this was OK. But when PET retired John Turner the “heir apparent” ran a dismal campaign and the Liberals dropped to only 40 seats, a massive loss.
Riding upon his revered name and attractive image, JT has been unrelentingly authoritarian.
On the serious threat in Quebec called the “October Crisis” that included a murder, PET imposed the War Measures Act, despite intellectually deploring the threat to freedom.
On the spontaneous “Freedom Convoy”, JT after border protests had eased in the new version of old War Measures Act and moved to confiscate small donations to the “Convoy”. An attempt was made to seize bank accounts. Which in introducing the concept of freedom into the cocoon of Ottawa was an enormous shock to the establishment.
And JT’s reaction while late was brutal.
Over the past year, the leader of the official opposition, Pierre Poilievre, has been remarkably effective during question period. With considerable hardships of rising energy costs and rising general costs of inflation, he has worked over the Trudeau minority government. The response has been unrelenting as JT was driven to twice increase carbon taxes. Why? Because he was saving the world. In more detail, for the past six years, David Morrison has been a special advisor to Trudeau. And his credentials include five years as “Director and Member of the Executive Board, World Economic Forum”. Strongly suggesting that Trudeau conveys the WEF’s policies to Canada’s parliament and citizens.
Unrelentingly poor judgment on a control mission.
Political equanimity has been assaulted before when the story was to exert control by trying to make all of Canada French speaking. Indeed, in 1977 Jock Andrew published “Bilingual Today, French Tomorrow”, which included:
“Since Mr. Trudeau came to power, the Federal Government has been sending agitators, paid by the Secretary of State’s department, into every Canadian community outside Quebec in which there are any French-Canadians at all, regardless of how few. The purpose is to have the French-Canadian element demand that every service which is provided by the provincial, county and municipal governments be provided in the French language. They are told to demand that all policemen, bus drivers, telephone operators, hospital workers, provincial and government workers be French-speaking. They are organized into pressure groups to demand that stores, banks and business owners hire only French-speaking clerks, personnel managers and managers.”
The book included: “One at a time, the provinces are crumbling”.

Fast forward to today and the issue is another monolithic mania, rather than control through” French” it is control through “Woke”. And all that that entails in extracting funds from ordinary folk while reducing freedom, with agitators found most everywhere—from media to education to governments.
And dressed up as “Equalization Payments”, four provinces receive zero, while Quebec is awarded $14 billion out of a total of $24 billion. The mining, manufacturing and financial powerhouse Ontario “needs” just $421 million to be equal than otherwise.
And the paradoxes of power include that most of the “Equalization” comes from oil-producing provinces that should be transporting oil and gas to refineries in Eastern Canada. But because of “La Belle” Quebec’s unique influence pipelines through that province are denied. Even a short one.
But there is hope as the Western Provinces are discovering common sense and a backbone to go with it. That with Trudeau’s corruption becoming more to the forefront, the Liberals may have to dump him. Moreover, a practical populist, Pierre Poilievre, as the Conservative leader, the next general election will hammer the Liberals. Indeed, it could be much more of a shock than facing the “Freedom Convoy”, it could lead to a massive loss of centralized power in Ottawa. A step towards more critical media would follow defunding the state-controlled Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
With power restored to the electorate, with one paper ballot per voter, voting once and each checked by party scrutineers Canada could get back to being a parliamentary democracy.
The radical Trudeaus will be ranked as failed intruders.
