Californians will be sentenced to higher sales, personal income taxes and vehicle taxes

California’s Busiest Shopping Day:  April Fool’s Eve!

Confirming that liberals have no sense of irony, April Fool’s Day this year will be commemorated with a new slew of confiscatory taxes assembled by the imbeciles in Sacramento who cannot grasp the most rudimentary economic principles. On April 1st, Californians will be sentenced to higher sales, personal income taxes and vehicle taxes.

The sales tax will increase by 1% over our already unconscionable rates; Los Angeles county residents will be paying 9.25% on purchases. This is in addition the California Redemption Value paid on bottles and cans: a complex labyrinth that nobody understands, but ramps up the price of soda, bottled water, chocolate milk, sports drinks and beer. The personal income tax rate will now top out at a punitive 9.55% for the most productive citizens. At the same time, the allowable dependent credit deduction will be reduced. You are probably beside yourself with worry about how these increases may affect the prosperity of our Hollywood celebutards. Fear not, our perspicacious state legislature has provided a corporate or personal income tax credit for 20% of qualified expenditures attributable to the production of a “qualified” motion picture or 25% of the qualified expenditures attributable to the production of a television series that relocated to California. “Qualified” motion picture remains undefined but it’s a safe bet that a Michael Moore or Oliver Stone “documentary” never triggers an audit. “This is a shameful day for California,” Doug Moore, executive director of the United Domestic Workers Providers Union told the LA Times. He’s right about that. But what Moore was complaining about was spending cuts, not the misappropriation of taxpayer funds. The state of California cutting spending on anything is a rare marvel. Showing the prudence we’ve come to expect from California politicians, the legislature was relying on funds from the federal “stimulus” bill to pay for more useless programs, but they miscalculated and are now disconsolate that their share of porkulus will not be what they had anticipated. Non- liberals have already figured out it is sound fiscal policy to wait until you have the money before you start spending it. It also completely eludes our “representatives” that if they raise the sales tax, people will buy less stuff. California purportedly needs all of this additional revenue to fund gargantuan agencies run by unelected bureaucrats to grapple with the Global Warming hoax. With our hard earned tax dollars, these Einsteins are coming up with can’t miss schemes like outlawing black cars. When queried about the ongoing exodus of citizens out of California, state senator John Benoit (R-CA) said that the stats being bandied about are difficult to prove and accurate numbers are not readily available. He did acknowledge that California is losing professionals and skilled workers along with a continuing influx of low or no skill workers. Some will probably be here legally. Count us among the refugees seeking asylum in a red state. Local car dealerships, currently under siege from the White House, enjoyed a brief interval of prosperity over the weekend as buyers converged on their lots to buy cars before the new sales tax kicks in. Californians who still have incomes are celebrating April Fool’s Eve scrambling around purchasing any big ticket items they may need in the near future. The next business to profit from California’s new budget: U-Haul.
