Cyber Attacks, Massive Snow Falls and Failing Microphones

A news story out of Washington today really caught my attention in a frightful way. It seems that Admiral Michael Rogers, head of the National Security Agency, testified that in his opinion China and 2-3 other world nations are capable of launching massive cyber attacks on the United States that could shut down the power grid and affect all aspects of communication and travel that could paralyze the world's only super power. In fact many informed officials claim that the prospect of such a move is not considered a “what if” scenario but a “when” concern. They feel that such an attack could happen within the next decade. It’s time for the US and their closest allies in Canada, England, Germany, Poland and Israel to take measures to counter such a threat. No time for negotiations and appeasement but time to be ready to powerfully counter such an attack.

Read a fascinating story by political consultant Floyd Smith comparing the recent moves by Russian President-Dictator Putin into retaking the Ukraine and what may be the next move by the aggressive policies of the ambitious former superpower. His scenario claims that it would be natural for them to attempt an invasion into Poland. I, for one, don't think its a realistic choice for the ambitious Putin for there truly is a good chance that the Russians could get themselves spanked. Most of the entire world would turn against the aggressive move and the Russian economy, which is in terrible shape today, would suffer immensely. Plus you can add the fact that the Polish military also has the manpower and expertise to repel and neutralize such an attack with the help of western technology. I certainly agree with Smith’s assertion that Putin's grab for power and influence on the world stage may be reminiscent of Hitler before World War 2, but unlike the Austrian monster I don't think that the Comrade Vlad will stay in power long enough to see his ambitions of restoring a new Soviet world sphere of influence. With no growth economically there will be too many hungry stomachs to keep him in power.

I am saddened to see the terrible natural disaster that has occurred in my beautiful adopted hometown of Buffalo, NY this week. Over 6 feet of snow in 48 hours, has matched and even exceeded the legendary blizzard of 1977. Residents of the Queen City are a hearty bunch who will overcome this adversity with the class and hard work that they're known for. Their tenacity is incredible when you consider that in the middle of the initial onslaught of this storm the Buffalo Sabres not only played at home but defeated Tampa in front of over six thousand fans.

On the lighter side, I am so proud of our terrific fans at the Air Canada Center earlier this week. During the National Anthem ceremony before the Maple Leafs’ 9-2 drubbing at the hands of the Nashville Predators, the mike went out accidentally during the American anthem. Without skipping a beat 20,000 fans in attendance jumped in and enthusiastically finished the beautiful last verses of the Star Spangled Banner. I thought it was an incredibly touching moment that was truly appreciated by the Americans watching and showed the class of our Canadian hockey fans. Toronto fans rock!!

Had a great chat today with my friend and fellow CFP journalist, CFP Associate Editor, Art Weinreb on his new book project detailing the history and relevance of Ford Nation and the career of our outgoing Mayor of Toronto Rob Ford. Its an exciting project which deserves the intelligent insight that Weinreb has to offer. Can’t wait to see the book come out in 2015 and I personally feel it has best seller written all over it.

Looking forward to starting my winter-long series of lectures and book signings at Greater Toronto Area, (GTA) based schools and libraries this Saturday at Etobicoke’s Brentwood Library. It’s nice to stay close to home over this winter as I finish my recovery from the loss of my lower left leg. I wanted to let all my dear friends, that I have started to walk some distances now unaided on my prostetic and I am proud that other than my walker at certain times, I no longer need any aids. I make this promise to all, that I plan on dancing on New Years Eve, and, I will post the video right here. I truly owe all of you so much!!! Until next time.
