Greta Thunberg—an Excellent Choice for Person of the Year

Greta Thunberg—an Excellent Choice for Person of the YearEarlier this week, Time Magazine chose Greta Thunberg as their Person of the Year for 2019. Finding it totally unnecessary to explain exactly who the 16-year-old Thunberg is, constitutes some proof the magazine made the right choice. Many people took to social media to criticize TIME’s choice, comparing it to the choice of Hitler in 1938 and Stalin the following year. Some seem to be under the impression the person or persons selected should be chosen for their goodness or positive contributions to society. But that is not the case.

Coup in the United States, Protests in Hong Kong, Islamic terrorist attacks, Rise in anti-Semitism pale in comparison to the issue the pigtailed 16-year-old symbolizes

TIME defines its “Person of the Year” as “the person or group of people who had the greatest influence on the events of the year —for better or worse.” (TIME) Choosing the Person of the Year is of course subjective and people can always say the magazine should have chosen X instead of Y. But there is little doubt Hitler was not a legitimate selection as a person who had the greatest impact on the world in 1938. The same can be said of Stalin the following year. And so it is with Greta, although she, of course is not being compared to Hitler. If we have learned anything from the left only Donald J. Trump can be compared to the late German Führur. Nevertheless as an influential newsmaker, Thunberg deserves TIME’s designation. The issue is not why Thunberg was a bad choice but why she was a good choice. She is a 16-year-old, self-righteous immature little brat who was brought up to believe there was nothing wrong with speaking in nasty tones not only to adults but world leaders. She has obviously been trained to repeat what adults with an agenda have taught her to say in order to further their political and climate agenda. Thunberg has shown she is incapable of answering questions when she has not been coached by her elders. In previous times children like Greta would have been spanked or at least laughed at but the leftist establishment has made her into a heroine. To the elites, the climate “crisis” is the major problem facing the world. The continuing coup in the United States against a duly elected president, protests in Hong Kong, Islamic terrorist attacks and the rise in anti-Semitism pale in comparison to the issue the pigtailed 16-year-old symbolizes. Much of the world reveres her and her message. Too many people believe the climate will ultimately be responsible for killing more people than previous Persons of the Year, Hitler and Stalin, ever did or could have dreamed of. It is a sad state of affairs but Greta Thunberg was a good choice for the 2019 Person of the Year.
