Ron Paul,

I Am Racist

I must admit to being quite amused by the attempts by the Paulies to deflect and excuse what some may consider Dr. Paul's musings of the past.

In a recent column, I cited postings from The Daily Kos warning their liberal readers who were considering jumping into the Ron Paul camp, that he may be a racist, and linked to stories citing quotes from his past newsletters. Now in re-reading my column, I fail to see where I directly implied Paul is a racist, but because I posted his quotes, some are implying that the only racist here is me. This from Australian John Ray of Dissecting Leftism....
A much more serious claim that Ron Paul is a racist comes from black conservative Bob Parks. Bob Parks generally speaks a lot of sense but the refusal of Ron Paul to be politically correct has obviously alarmed him. Parks has a whole list of broadly realistic utterances from Ron Paul that would have any Leftist shrieking "racism". The prime example seems to be: "We don't think a child of 13 should be held responsible as a man of 23. That's true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such." If you left out the word "black", I think there could well be a majority of Americans who agreed with that. And, given his vocal condemnation of real racism (as now linked by Taranto), I suspect that Ron Paul himself would intend his remarks to apply to all gang members who otherwise fitted his description. So I am afraid that it is really Bob Parks who is the racist on this occasion. It is the addition of "black" that forms his opinion of Ron Paul. And who would deny that many of the gang members who fit Ron Paul's description are in fact black? Ron Paul has no difficulty in describing reality but Bob Parks does.
I said I was amused. If Mitt Romney had made any of the cited quotes, liberals (especially those in the enlightened Paul camp) would be demanding his resignation from the presidential campaign and the Republican Party. Instead, those comments are being justified in having a modicum of truth. For those of you who HAVE read my columns over the years, I have been very unsympathetic to those who commit crime within the Black community. For that, I have been branded as insensitive, a sell-out, an uncle tom, a wannabe white, and more. As I wrote before, these same liberals calling me a racist today had no problem publishing racist caricatures of Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, Janice Rogers Brown, or any other Black conservative who strayed from the liberal plantation. It's been the left who've assumed that Black people are so damned stupid that they require Affirmative Action to get ahead in America. I'm the one who's said that Blacks who commit a "third strike" should go to jail for twenty years to life, not for committing a petty crime, but for the inability to count to three. I've never made excuses for bad behavior by Black people, and for that I continue to be in the cross-hairs of liberals, Black and white alike. What I find amusing is the left's attempt to brand me a racist for posting Paul's comments; comments they are now attempting to justify.
"We don't think a child of 13 should be held responsible as a man of 23. That's true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such." If you left out the word "black", I think there could well be a majority of Americans who agreed with that.
Again, I contend if any of the Republican candidates uttered the same words, the attempt to drum him (or her) out of politics would be extraordinary. I will not be lectured to by a liberal about racism. Just the fact that one of their anti-war heroes is Senator Robert Byrd, tells me their sincerity regarding race issues is one of convenience, thus is hollow. John Ray may claim to be a Fred Thompson supporter, and if that's the case, Fred Thompson should be concerned. It's obvious that Ray has again fallen into the knee-jerk trap I inadvertently set. He attempted to read between the lines I wrote. Considering the technology as it exists today, there are no words between the lines because I cannot physically put any there. So I would respectfully suggest reading what I wrote and commenting on that solely. Just a suggestion.
