There simply is no room for raising taxes

The pressure cooker that is the debt talks

You raise taxes; you will squeeze the American people who are already struggling. Yet, that approach to dealing with the country’s debt issue is what President Obama advocates. And with gas prices either at $4 or hovering, that cost is passed on to the business owner, and in turn is passed on to the consumer.

There simply is no room for raising taxes. It is the stand that Congressional Republicans in the House take—that it isn’t good for the economy. And economists agree, if taxes are raised, businesses won’t hire. So we go nowhere. Small businesses are already feeling the pinch. More taxes?! No way! If that happens, businesses would likely go under instead. Standard and Poors, who warns of the nation sliding back into recession if nothing is done, is scheduled to meet with GOP House freshmen over the debt situation. This tells me that those in business know who to approach over this issue and just who is serious enough about cutting our debt. Allen West (R-FL) has said essentially that the Democrats have nothing, the President has nothing to offer as well. Democrats in the Senate haven’t passed a budget in 812 days…and counting. Republicans in the House of Reps. have at least a solid, fiscal plan to move forward, and it’s with hope I watch to see if Senate Democrats would hear what Republicans have to say on their “Cut, Cap, and Balance” bill and move to save this country from going under. If Democrats vote down this bill, where do you think their allegiance lies? Perhaps in themselves; certainly not the American people. If you or I faced mounting debt, a credit counselor would likely tell us to cut back, and stop spending, and look for ways to eliminate debt…even if it took a slow process to get it down, at least the debt would be on the decrease. I’m all for drastic cuts. I’m for cuts in defense, unnecessary government programs, entitlements, wherever. On defense—we don’t need to open up any more war fronts unless our nation is provoked into war. All of our military personnel are needed at home. We need all of our attention placed on the well-being of our nation. Countries like China are on the upswing with their economy and are competition in that area as well as in space exploration. The United States is not trending in the same direction. It is high time our leaders make good on their promises to work for the American people—the nation’s debt is not a political issue, it is an issue of future livelihood.
