Those Other Illegals:  Terrorists

The Gang of Ocho is closer to victory after a successful cloture vote for their amnesty bill in the senate. The imaginary beefed up border security provided cover for republicans who voted in favor of ending debate.
What Corker-Haven really does is give Janet Napolitano and her successors wide discretion to declare the border secure. While it directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to build a fence, it provides a way out if the secretary deems it less than the best use of resources. As to visa overstays, the bill supposedly mandates the initiation of removal proceedings for at least 90% of the overstays. In reality, it grants the government other options: “The bill says 180 days after passage, the government 'shall initiate removal proceedings… confirm that immigration relief or protection has been granted or is pending, or otherwise close 90 percent of the cases' involving visa over-stays.” Visa overstays are an efficient way to collect terrorists.

Thus far, the debate has been entirely focused on illegal immigrants coming from Mexico.  According to one time conservative rock star turned pariah, Marco Rubio and the rest of the Ochos, Latinos are an untapped source of republican votes.  Statistically, that's nonsense. But, the entire battle has been about aliens from Mexico coming across the border to take taxpayer funded benefits as well as jobs.  Border states just can't afford it anymore.  The country can't afford it anymore.  That's not really open for argument. What has gotten lost in the scramble for the Hispanic vote is that other category of illegals:  terrorists.  Jihadi literature is being found at the Mexican border.  Four of the 9/11 killers were visa overstays. In 2007, Hosam Smadi came from Jordan on a 90 day tourist visa but never  left.  Two years later he decided to blow up a Dallas high rise with a car bomb. Twenty nine year old Moroccan Amine El Khalifi, overstayed his visa and in 2012 conspired to detonate a bomb at the U.S. Capitol. The Boston marathon bombers were in the U.S. on expired student visas. According to the Migration Policy Institute, about 40% of immigrants who came here legally are here on expired visas. While the politicians wrangle over who gets the Hispanic votes, don't be entirely surprised if some terrorist rolls a dirty bomb over our southern border.
