The next time you face an IRS audit, you can simply tell the agents that you're invoking the Obama administration doctrine of "following the law is hard, so I'm not gonna."

Feds admit Lerner email backups exist, but Obama admin. attorneys claim they'd be 'really hard' to get

First, they promised they'd "produce them quickly." Then, they said Lois Lerner's emails "were deleted." Later, they hit us with: "the hard drives were destroyed." Eventually, they admitted that proper backup procedures were "apparently not followed." Whatever the constantly-changing reason, Lois Lerner's emails were not going to be made available to Darrel Issa and, in turn, the American public

They were gone, and there was nothing anyone could ever do about it. Everyone was supposed to forget about them and move on. Except, we’ve now learned that they're not gone. They were backed up and they could still be produced. As you might expect, the Obama administration's attorneys now have a new excuse for not turning the emails over. They say they're not going to spend time searching the backups for them. Why? Because it would be "really, really, hard." That's why. A Monday release from Judicial Watch spelled things out:
Department of Justice attorneys for the Internal Revenue Service told Judicial Watch on Friday that Lois Lerner’s emails, indeed all government computer records, are backed up by the federal government in case of a government-wide catastrophe. The Obama administration attorneys said that this back-up system would be too onerous to search. The DOJ attorneys also acknowledged that the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is investigating this back-up system. We obviously disagree that disclosing the emails as required would be onerous, and plan to raise this new development with Judge Sullivan. This is a jaw-dropping revelation. The Obama administration had been lying to the American people about Lois Lerner’s missing emails. There are no “missing” Lois Lerner emails – nor missing emails of any of the other top IRS or other government officials whose emails seem to be disappearing at increasingly alarming rate. All the focus on missing hard drives has been a diversion. The Obama administration has known all along where the email records could be – but dishonestly withheld this information.
Yes, compliance with the law can be such a pain. It's much easier to just ignore their obligations, because looking through the backup system would be "difficult." Obviously, no one wants them to go to too much trouble. So, remember. The next time you face an IRS audit, you can simply tell the agents that you're invoking the Obama administration doctrine of "following the law is hard, so I'm not gonna."
