About That Unpaid Bill We're Leaving Behind...

FROZEN BY DEBT Seriously into genealogy I have a genuine regard for generations past, present, and future. Our family tree is approaching 17,000 folks, almost all with substantial documentation to verify their existence and relationship to me. Birth, marriage and death records go back hundreds of years.

What Was That All About Last Week?

Time to man up here Last Tuesday evening I penned an essay that appeared on this site early Wednesday morning March 21 (see Situational Awareness May Save You: Be On The Lookout). The purpose of that piece was to encourage readers to think about a thing or event that could severely affect one's wellbeing. Of course I was thinking dollars and cents and stock markets. But here's an analogy to consider.

Here's the real sordid skinny on the FBI

Here's the real sordid skinny on the FBI In a recent column published in Canada Free Press “This Is Your FBI”, I posited the notion the FBI enjoyed an undeserved favorable reputation fabricated by the entertainment media that produces fanciful stories for public consumption attesting to spectacular exploits of its agents. It's all BS! The truth is the FBI has since its founding been mostly a political institution with a sideline of fighting crime.

"This Is Your FBI"

This Is Your FBI I borrowed the title for this essay from a very popular weekly radio show (over 400 episodes) of the exact same name, broadcast during some of my growing up years 1945-1953. Before television became the focus of our attention we listened to radio, usually as a family gathered around the one piece of furniture providing our in-home entertainment.

Pricing Perspectives on Money, Monsters . . . and a Good Man

Pricing Perspectives on Money, Monsters Regular readers at CFP may have stumbled upon one or more of my essays, and maybe lingered long enough to learn two of my lifelong interests are economics and hockey. A recent event caused me to reflect on those interests and put some perspective to the pricing of goods and services.

DEMOCRATS DEPLORABLE DIALOG: "TALKING POINTS"

DEMOCRATS DEPLORABLE DIALOG: TALKING POINTS Politicians representing both parties are routinely issued talking points to be disseminated via whatever media is convenient. It is standard operating procedure. The words used are likely prepared by lawyers to stretch the mantra just far enough. The notion is to prevent presenters from going off script and betraying themselves as just ordinary fools.

Believe Me!

Hillary Clinton, Martha Stewart It is acknowledged by honest reporters (and how few they are!) that Trump is hell bent to deliver on all his campaign promises. Prominent among those commitments is his laudable intention to "drain the swamp!" The process to do that has begun.

A DANGEROUS GAME OF FINANCIAL HOVERCRAFT?

Last night I probably watched my last movie for awhile. The NHL regular season begins tonight and will occupy my evening viewing for the months through mid-June next year. What flick did I see . . . again? The James Bond movie "Die Another Day" starring Pierce Brosnan. An early reel features a scene with several hovercraft engaged in a bumpercar-like skirmish.

I've Had It Up To Here! And I'm Gagging!

The subject for discussion is "racial inequality". I have heard that phrase for the umpteenth time over the past few days. And it is infuriating!

What Will Be Her Final Answer?

Lady Justice, in her many forms and materials of construction, is prominently displayed and appropriately revered in dozens of locations around the world. She is a tourist attraction everywhere and prayerfully perceived as a dispenser of truth and fairness, regardless of geography and culture.

THE REALLY BIG LIE!

I'm sure many readers have their own version as to which is the really big lie, and rightly so. There are many to choose from. My peeve this time is the phrase "EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW". In fact, it doesn't exist. What prompted my outrage this time? The announcement from the Department of Justice (now there's a misnomer) that Lois Lerner will not be prosecuted.

"It All Depends On Whose Ox Is Being Gored"

Here's what the above idiom means. If something awful happens to someone you don't know, or perhaps dislike, you are likely to ignore it in the first instance, or may even applaud it in the latter instance. If something awful happens to you or your loved ones, well, that's a different story altogether. There will be no applause from you; there will be scorn and retribution if you can make that happen.

I'm Fed Up Enough To Write This

Like most readers on this site, I ingest, willingly or otherwise, a virtual flood of written and orally delivered media articles dissing our POTUS. Enough already! Its not warranted! He's not out to get you! Well, not most of you anyway.

Who Has Half A Brain?

In an earlier essay published in Canada Free Press (see An Issue For Debate: Universal Suffrage, March 13, 2016) I made the case for limiting the right to vote to citizens who had "skin in the game", meaning they had reached a stage in life where they had something of value at risk.

What A Difference A Year Makes: And Who Is Asking

A year ago, half the populace was demanding an orange jump suit and iron bars for Hillary Clinton. Then POTUS Obama felt a compulsion to come to her rescue and try to save her derriere. Obama made several public TV appearances on her behalf, one of which is printed below.

Wordplay: Where Are We . . . and Where Are We Going?

An essay in the opinion section of the NY Times dated 4/28/17 and titled "America, From Exceptionalism to Nihilism", set me thinking and suggested the title I assigned to my essay in response, the one you are now reading.

A Blood Boiler

An article in the March 18 issue of the Toronto Star, a left-leaning publication, got my blood boiling! It is titled "Buying their way to the front of the health-care line." That is followed, in large bold lettering, by the question, "Should the wealthy be allowed to buy their way to faster health care at private clinics?"
