October 2019 - A Decisive Political Crossroads

Andrew Schher, Justin Trudeau, Maxime BernierI keep track of political developments by following the news, and by getting a good feeling for popular opinion through the newspaper comments beneath both news and opinion items and the letters-to-the-editor. People are more likely to say what they really think when they can feel anonymous by using false names! Justin Trudeau supporters are few and far between in such forums, which are provided by the Toronto Sun and the National Post but not the Toronto Star, and a major debating point by far is that "a vote for Bernier is a vote for Trudeau".

My motivation to support Maxime Bernier goes far beyond Liberals versus Conservatives and a desire to unseat Justin Trudeau

My motivation to support Maxime Bernier goes far beyond Liberals versus Conservatives and a desire to unseat Justin Trudeau. Our political parties have all been in multicultural lockstep since the immigration floodgates were opened some 50 years ago, and hate crime laws and human rights commissions have been put in place to punish and deter any criticism. By expressing his concern that excessive multiculturalism will divide Canadians into squabbling “tribes,” Bernier offers hope that those who created this country will once again have a say in their future. But with Andrew Scheer or Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister, both firmly committed to ongoing, massive immigration, our fate will be sealed. I believe there is a very real possibility that a Bernier-led party could easily hold the balance of power after the 2019 elections, the important thing being for Bernier to distinguish his movement from the established parties in terms of “multiculturalism” and our future. I am expecting massive support to materialize for the new party.

Renata Ford legal action against Doug Ford

I see that Renata Ford, wife of the late Mayor Rob Ford, filed a lawsuit against Doug Ford and his brother Randy yesterday through her solicitor Aird & Berlis LLP (*). This is the equivalent of a #MeToo drive-by shooting, with only three days left before voting day. I wonder how the Law Society of Upper Canada would react to a complaint of unethical behaviour in this matter? Deliberately interfering in an election in this way affects millions of people, not just Doug Ford and his brother. This is absolutely outrageous, and I hope that action can and will be taken against the Aird & Berlis law firm. -- The Star

June 7th election

On June 7th we will cast our votes in the most important decision the Ontario electorate has ever had to make. A vote for Andrea Horwath’s socialists will inevitably result in an NDP-Liberal coalition government, and I have no doubt that the vastly more experienced Wynne will manipulate and control Horwath like a hand-puppet. Anything short of a majority win for the Doug Ford Conservatives will assuredly result in more - much more - of what we are trying to get away from. This is it, folks; let’s not mess it up!

Winston Churchill a sexist?

Dear Editor: I was just reading some Winston Churchill quotes and came across the following: “A good speech should be like a woman’s skirt: long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest.” Totally unacceptable - let’s unearth him, prop him up by the roadside, and have a #MeToo drive-by shooting!

Motion M-103

Dear Editor: The Commons will be voting on the adoption of M-103 “Systemic racism and religious discrimination” on Thursday, and this is the last opportunity to contact our politicians urging them to reject this blatant attempt to muzzle free speech.

Surprised that Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto cancelled his visit with Trump

Dear Editor: Re: “Mexican President demands ‘respect’ from Trump, threatens to cancel meeting - Trump calls his bluff” I am little surprised that Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto subsequently cancelled his scheduled visit with Donald Trump. The bottom line is that the porous southern border of America, combined with eight years of Barack Obama’s deliberate failure to protect it, has enabled Mexico to offload its surplus population onto the United States, thus saving itself massive welfare, housing, and other costs, which have effectively been transferred to the American taxpayer. Mexican consulates in the U.S. have for years routinely provided legal and other assistance to Mexican illegals threatened with deportation (here and here), thus demonstrating the huge benefits to Mexico in shipping its surplus population elsewhere so that it can become someone else’s problem. Donald Trump is now going to put a stop to that.

Attacks on Kellie Leitch.

Dear editor: Re the vicious attacks on PC leadership candidate Kellie Leitch: What kind of a country are we living in, when a politician can be ripped apart simply for wanting to check immigrants for suitability? When I got here in 1966, I was told that if I showed up at the welfare office or ended up in court, I would be deported. People like me get far more upset over this than native-born Canadians. To those of us who have to live with the results of Harper's and Trudeau’s appalling immigration policies, Leitch is a welcome breath of fresh air. ,

The Forcillo-Yatim jury verdict

The jury’s decision that Const. Forcillo is not guilty of 2nd-degree murder, but guilty of “attempted” murder in the Sammy Yatim case, will seem bizarre to many. The fatal (first) shots were considered by the jury to be justified due to Yatims’ actions, but the final (not fatal) shots were considered unnecessary and so result in the attempted murder verdict.

Meathead politicians compromising our troops

There is hardly anything new about politicians interfering with the military, but their excesses can sometimes be breathtakingly dangerous. That was my opinion when our Parliament decided to have a one-minute silence after the first Canadian soldier was killed in Afghanistan. What kind of message did that send?

A Question on the China Initiative

I am very concerned about Nazim Gillani’s written reference (Toronto Star April 16th) to a “China initiative”. Is there any involvement by the Peoples Liberation Army in this sordid affair? Was this an attempt to penetrate the Harper government using people like Gillani, and his alleged propensity towards blackmail? How many Chinese “businessmen” were met, by whom, and where? I hope this is included in the RCMP investigation.

Sid Ryan elected

Sid Ryan was elected President of the Ontario Federation of Labourt yesterday. This was not entirely unexpected, as all CUPE Local delegates to the OFL Convention can be expected to have voted for him, either to advance their/his ideology, or simply to get rid of him. And so it begins… but this time, on a different and bigger level.

Sid Ryan running for OFL boss

Dear Editor So Sid Ryan is “thinking” about running for President of the Ontario Federation of Labour! I’m sure Sid’s lackey Michael Coren can be counted on for glowing praise in a soon-to-be seen column. Think about the Days of Action in 1996, when Sid and his leftist buddies bussed in people from all over Ontario and even the States to try to close down Toronto, in an illegal “strike”.
