Edward Zawadzki

It is with a heavy heart that I write tonight that sportscaster, ‘King of Fight’ Eddie Zawadzki is gone. Eddie’s sister, Christine called to tell Canada Free Press (CFP) that Eddie died this morning of a massive heart attack, age 55.

Watched the good Reverend Jeremiah Wright of Chicago unmercifully flapping his mouth and arms about like a frenzied stork at a NAACP banquet in Detroit the other night live on CNN.

A McCain-Rice ticket?

In what would be an absolute disaster for the Democratic Party leading up to the November presidential election, it looks like there may be some truth to the behind the scenes scuttlebutt that current Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice may just be open to a feeler sent out by the McCain camp to have her join his ticket as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

New Cruelty to Animals Bill in Ontario

A big thumbs up to the Province of Ontario, which has introduced a new bill bringing animal cruelty laws into the modern ages. One of the highlights of these potential new laws is that it will make it illegal to cause or permit an animal to be put in a position of distress with penalties for such to reach two years in prison or a hefty $60,000 fine.

The passing of a great one. Zeppo and Gummo for president!

It looks like solidarity is crumbling in this close, bitter Democratic Party candidacy race to choose between two yawners, Zeppo and Gummo on who will represent their unsuccessful run against John McCain for the Presidency in November.

Canada’s healthcare system in trouble

With our health care system in trouble across Canada, the knuckle heads, who are running the show here have now publically announced that since January of 2002 we have allowed over 2,500 immigrants with HIV into our country.

Silda Spitzer and the Angriest Wife in America

With all the publicity surrounding the resignation of New York Governor Eliot Spitzer in the very public wake of a high-priced, call girl scandal, one scenario keeps coming to mind, and that is now Hillary Clinton has some real competition from Silda Spitzer for the title of Angriest Wife in America.

David Miller and Toronto’s Drug Policies

There are just simply too many things that have happened in the past week that have dissed me off to list in just one column here, but I'll do my best to list some of worst offenders.

The passing of Jeff Healey

I am truly in a state of shock over the passing on this Sunday of Toronto-based guitar legend Jeff Healey. Healey passed away after a long courageous fight with cancer at the too young age of 41. Losing his sight at the age of 1 to a form of cancer, Jeff started to play the guitar at the age of 3.

Celebrities and Politicans

It's an absolute sin that in this era of Oprah, Blitzer and celebrity worship that the real catalysts of public opinion and potential policy makes it seem that in this election  the major media players such as Winfrey, CNN and NBC have the clout and blanket coverage to make them the most powerful brokers in politics today.

Misremembering Roger Clemens, Toronto Taxi Drivers

If the congressional inquiry into steroid and HGH use in baseball does little else in its proceedings then at least they can take great pride in knowing that due to Roger Clemens brain-numbing testimony.

Italian Culture, Hockey and American Liberalism

I know that this might sound really ridiculous but don't you just hate it when on the Sopranos or some other American shows that feature Italian cultura that they refer to Tomato sauce as Gravy!

Welfare Dollars for Muslim Polgamists

In what has to be one of the biggest travesties perpetrated on provincial government coffers, it seems that the Ontario government has potentially paid out millions of welfare dollars per month to Muslim families whose male heads are claiming up to four wives in polygamous marriages recognized under Muslim law.

Hand washing and the Islamic Medical Association

Just when you think you've heard it all, it seems that in the jolly old land of England, a rapidly increasing degree of Muslim women health care workers are rebelling against hygiene practices set forth by the British Medical Association.

Don Whittman, Cliff Fletcher and the Maple Leafs

Hate to start any column about anything political, but I just finished watching the South Carolina Democratic debate on the tube last night . All I can say is that I truly hope that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama keep knocking the hell out of each other and give the voters a chance to see that the third person on the stage (I don't count Wolf Blitzer) John Edwards is head and shoulders above those two twits in ideas, sincerity and charisma. He’s truly the only one up there that appears to look and sound presidential. I really think he is the only Democratic candidate that will give John McCain a run for his money.

Sports round up January 7th

With the news leaking out that a possible consortium is being put together to place an offer on the badly slumping, but economically pristine Maple Leafs in the past few days, this has definitely turned into a year of more twists and turns than a Chubby Checker concert.
