The global warming crowd could not get ordinary Americans to buy into their arrogant narrative that the globe is warming due to human activity such as industry, travel, car use, agriculture, breathing, flying, artificial lakes; so, they turned the Armageddon narrative into a profitable leftist climate change industry that has many allies among academics, public school teachers, the mainstream media, and crony corporatism. Who can deny that the climate changes and has done so for thousands of years?
Americans who self-describe as socialists, seem to long for a society like that of European Nordic states which are not socialist, they have a capitalist economy with large government welfare paid for by high taxation. I am not sure American socialists, and their followers understand the true definition of a socialist nation, one in which all the means of production are owned by the state. That is perhaps because the online definitions of socialism have been changed to fit the leftist narrative in the media. They know that the public knows little history and thus has no reference point.
As this administration’s spokesperson is twisting herself into a verbal pretzel to present the protests in Cuba as something other than what they are, a cry for freedom and an end to the communist tyranny which has gripped the island since 1959 when Castro’s brutal Marxists took over, the American Marxists are busy promoting and pushing Marxism in America, using invented constructs, i.e. non-existent white supremacy, critical race theory, to convince the American public that it is what they want, freedom from capitalism and installation of Democrat socialism using Karl Marx as their icon and mentor.
Having a child while employed by the federal government in the U.S. now seems to be a piece of cake – both the mother and the father get twelve weeks of paid leave to care for their progeny. The rest of the country is lucky if they are able to get six weeks of unpaid leave without actually losing their jobs.
American Marxism is not exactly Karl Marx’s revolutionary fight between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. It is the fight between corporate technocrats and Americans who love their country. Our fifty states are interconnected through trade and travel and states that did not enforce lockdowns are still affected by states that chose to shut down completely. Blue states, poorly managed to begin with and tightly locked down, are clamoring for a piece of the huge financial rescue coming from Washington.
This welfare is enabled by the Treasury's money printing without any backing of goods and services faster than paper can be supplied thus contributing to the rising inflation, inflation partially hidden by the elimination of fuel and food from the proverbial basket of goods that determines each month the rise and fall of prices.
The Roman soldier was not concerned about the fate of the Empire, stretching beyond the administrative reach, the politics of the day, the power and overreach of the patricians, the 600 Senators (senex = old man), the Roman army; soldiers only cared about the pebbles in their shoes because those pebbles caused them pain and discomfort when they marched on campaigns. They were happy when they were given “pane et circenses,” bread and circuses. Free gladiatorial performances in the arena kept them placid and pacified with free tokens for plain bread.
On a recent trip to a local store, the manager asked me to fill out a ticket for the drawing they were having for Mother’s Day. As I was filling it out, I stated casually that I am never lucky at such drawings or at lottery. She added, but you are lucky more than you know. If your car broke down irreparably, you could afford to go buy a new one.
I am not so sure that is my definition of ‘luck’ as I have worked extremely hard my entire life, saved, and drove cars way past their expiration dates. To me they are just means to get from point A to point B in a safe way. Yet she inadvertently made the point that ‘luck’ has a different meaning and definition for different people – some agree, and others disagree in their definition and interpretation of ‘luck.’
