Ottawa’s carbon tax—fix it or scrap it: duelling essays make the case for and against

VANCOUVER—With the federal carbon tax set to rise from $65 to $80 per tonne on April 1, two new essays—published today by the Fraser Institute—make two opposing arguments, to retain the tax (after fixing it) and to scrap the tax.

According to the first essay, Reforming the Federal Government's Carbon Tax Plan, the government should reform the tax to mitigate its negative economic impacts so the tax simply replaces—and doesn’t add to—other government regulations and mandates meant to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

In a 4:54 minutes YouTube video (see below), California Republican Congressman Tom McClintock rebukes Special Counsel Robert Hur. He states:

    “It would be toxic to the rule of law on its face if it was just two ordinary citizens, but the fact that the only person being prosecuted for this offense happens to be the political opponent (meaning Trump) makes this an unprecedent attack on our democracy. This is the worse we could expect from a banana republic…This is doctrine you’ve (addressing Hur) established in our law and it’s frightening.”

UN pressures Israel as modern Jewry, whites, and colleges wallow in self-hate

Israel’s lonely stance against a resurgence of antisemitism has come at a cost to world security. Double-dealing Biden and his administration officials have lowered the boom by abstaining, and allowing a United Nations resolution for an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza to pass. Although the wording calls for hostage returns, it carries no consequences for Hamas if they don’t comply, nor does it call out the terror group for the heinous attack October 7, 2023 that ignited the conflict.
