Town Hall Meeting:
Whose land is it, and will it be stolen?

by Ontario Landowners association,,
Wednesday, December 28, 2005

a town-hall meeting will be held at the Fenelon Township Community Centre, Cambray, Ontario on Sunday, January 8th, 2006 at 1 p.m.

The meeting is open to all residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes, and will be of particular interest to residents of the Carden plain, which covers parts of the former townships of Carden, Bexley, Eldon and Laxton, in the City's north end.

Victoria County is proposing a new official plan and is being heavily and unduly influenced by Queen’s Park bureaucrats and their urban environmentalist allies. The City's draft Official Plan proposes a variety of designations for large areas of the Carden Plain. Under this proposal there is little room leftover for private landowners or for their use and enjoyment of their private property. This plan will effectively prohibit and restrict landowners from the use and enjoyment of their own property without compensation, and effectively transfer decision-making responsibility on private property to the public bureaucracy, while creating a monetary burden of costs for the landowners to shoulder.

The proposed Official Plan designates much of the Carden Plain as an "alvar", in which no development is permitted.

Keynote speaker will be Randy Hillier of the Lanark Landowners association, recently elected chair of the Ontario Landowners association, and driving force behind Ontario's "Rural Revolution".

among other guest speakers are MP Barry Devolin, who will be speaking on Property Rights and the failings of Canada's gun registry legislation.

Meeting organizer Sharon Stewart says the purpose of the meeting is to discuss unfair land designations, and to identify a plan for community action. Says Stewart, "we want real public input into the property rights of local residents."
