Liberals defy logic as panic sets in

as more and more details emerge from the Gomery Commission about the corruption of the Liberal Party of Canada, the government has gone into full panic mode. and when the panic set it, the statements of the party and their spokesmen started to become more and more bizarre. The party that will say anything to get elected is now saying anything to try and salvage the unsalvageable.

It now appears that the misuse of taxpayer money had little if anything to do with keeping Quebec in Canada, the whole rationale for the sponsorship program. With what is now coming out from the Gomery Commission it is clear that the program was nothing more than a way for the Liberals to reward their friends and to enable these same friends to pour thousands of their ill gotten gains back into Liberal Party coffers.

as more and more details became publicly known, Prime Minister Paul Martin’s answer was to attack those who dare to criticize the Liberal Party of Canada and its Quebec wing. according to the PM, this is unfair to all of the honest hard working regular men and women who are members of the party. according to Martin this corruption does not stem from the party but from some sort of "parallel Liberal Party" that has absolutely nothing to do with him or those who run the National Governing Party. Perhaps we should pay attention to Paul on this one; after all, coming from a parallel universe as he does, he may know a thing or two about parallels.

Martin’s theory of don’t blame the Liberal Party for what the Liberal Party does was not lost on the Hells angels. For those who don’t know, the Hells angels are a group of motorcycle hobbyists who have been making the very same argument for years. Every time one or two of its members gets charged with murder or conspiracy to traffic in drugs, the group gets accused of being a criminal organization. Lately the government has been prosecuting motorcycle enthusiasts for being criminal organizations. The only difference between the Hells angels and the federal and Quebec Liberals is that the angels at least keep the economy going. The next time a motorcycle gang (oops, club) gets charged with being a criminal enterprise, look for them to raise the parallel group defense.

In an even greater departure from logic and common sense, the Liberals sent one of their lawyers out to bemoan the fact that the corrupt Liberals are actually the "victims" of their own corruption. Lawyer Doug Mitchell announced that he has called in the RCMP to investigate the corruption that went on between the Liberals and the advertising agencies because somehow it might have been a crime in which the Liberal Party was a victim. as the RCMP are no more than an extension of the Liberal Party of Canada, they will probably buy the Liberal as victim scenario. Lest anyone forget, the RCMP were themselves recipients of some of the misappropriated taxpayer money.

Mitchell, in the way of a true Grit treated the public as if they are complete idiots and said that none of the money could have possibly gone to the Quebec Liberal Party because they are now $3 million in debt. To tell Canadians that the Quebec party could not have benefited from ill gotten gains because the loot somehow didn’t show up in the party’s books is the height of arrogance that is endemic to those that feel they have a God given right to govern, even though you’ll never catch them using the word "God".

In a further attempt to hold on to the power that Paul Martin has sought since it was denied to daddy, he is now accusing the Conservative Party of aiding the separatists. Trying to break up the country. according to Martin, if the Conservatives want to join with the Bloc Quebecois in toppling the most corrupt and probably the most ineffective government in Canadian history, they are helping the separatists to destroy the country. More Liberal arrogance.

The more that the details of adscam come out, the more Paul Martin will squirm. In the days and weeks to come, at least Paul and his party will provide the country with a lot of laughs as he tries to keep his party from going down the tubes. and Canadians will have to decide if the entertainment value of watching the Liberals was worth the money that it cost them.
